The best way to start training in Kung Fu is to try and find a really great instructor that you can trust! There are a lot of schools out there! Check online with a Google search and in the Phone Book! Another question could be: How do I find the right martial arts school for me (based on what I would like to accomplish)? AND if Kung Fu is really what I'd like to learn.

To learn Kung fu you would need to seek a Sifu or Kung fu master . There might be one up in Wausau if you don't mind the drive. Fuchen
Our school isn't Kung fu but teaches realitic approaches to defend and protect against harm . We teach from nine separate martial schools and these have a direct lineage to our Japanese grandmaster which I and some students have had the privilege to go to Japan and learn from .

Indeed, one cannot "do" kung fu, but you can say that one "has" kung fu.
