Why can't Airplanes have nets on the Turbo Jet engines?

cricketer image

When I usually hear about plane crashes, it usually deals with birds getting sucked into the turbo jet engines under the wing of the plane. Can't they just have nets in front of the engine so when the bird gets sucked in, it does not go in the engine?

Not a bad idea in theory, but i believe the risk of breakage and getting sucked into the engine probably outweighs the risk of birds.Would have to be some kind of metal to last.Still not a bad idea.
