It can actually be easier to match and replace the entire lid than just replace the screen. I take it from your question that the machine is out of warranty and you are trying to save a few $$. Search eBay for your laptop model and find one with a dead mother board. Offer a lowball price and switch out the lids.

You would probably find the best deals for a replacement screen on ebay. However, no matter how highly reccommended the seller, there's no way to be sure you will get a screen that isn't scratched. (This has happened to me before.) If you are able to find a replacement screen...WooHoo...putting it in isn't difficult. If you want help though, you can take your laptop and the new screen to a local repair shop and they will replace it for you (...quickly if they are not busy).

Ebay dealers have replacement LCD's for laptops at great prices. Just make sure you have the correct model and size of the LCD, you also get buyer protection with purchase. You must also have a good memory to remember where all the screws go back correctly.

Not a bad idea trying to save money but it is not an easy task repair a laptop. Of course if you are confident enough and have steady hands, then go for it. If not, best to find a professional. Most important thing here is that we protect your investment.

A great place to find screens for your laptop is to call some of your local shops. If you are not able to locate someone then give one of us a call. peter@tampaempire.com or 877-657-4600

Once you use the resources others have listed here (which are very accurate), I would suggest you attempt one money-saving move:
Take the information you gained, specifically the exact part number of the screen, and look for it online using Google Shopping and Ebay (which Google usually finds anyway). If you can find a significant discount from a reputable seller, buy it.
Of course that means you will attempt to install the new screen yourself, which I believe you can do!! There are step-by-step instructions for most models online already.
If you really want to give back to the community, you will take pictures of your "adventure" as you go and post it here on Merchant Circle...
Have a great day!

There are places you can buy replacement displays for various models. The link that Indiana DJ has listed is in fact a direct connection to HP so it is ordinarily the best source of replacement HP parts for your HP computer. However...I think you will notice that the display, which can be replaced, is not something HP will sell you a part for. HP will require you to return the laptop back to them if the display needs to be replaced. in fact...most manufactures will require the laptop to be returned for this service. The reason being is that in order to replace the displays from just about any laptop, you have to disassemble the product almost entirely. Im not aware of your technical level but unless you attended HP training specifically for HP notebook computers, I wouldn't recommend attempting this on your own unless you have a strong stomach. If you do, make sure to back up your harddrive in the event you experience hardware failure. You can look here for the parts you might need. www.lcds4less.com .

If the laptop is under warranty, then HP will need to be contacted. If not, the screen could be replaced depending on screen availability. Warning though... screen replacement can be expensive. Last one I worked on had a $260 screen and 2 hours work.
