  1. Rancho San Rafael Park:  North RENO North on Keystone Right on Coleman, Enter the white gates on the right, Left on 1st gravel road. Drive to end.  http://www.washoecounty.us/parks

  1. Evan's Canyon:  North Reno

Virginia Street North of  McCarran, take 1st left into Reno Sports Complex parking lot.  Drive to the end, trailhead will be on your right.  Walk to the big blue Basque Monument, then down the hill.   1. Whittaker Park:  North RENO 

Located at 550 University Terrace, between Washington and Ralston Streets.  0.75 Acres. http://www.cityofreno.com/Index.aspx?page=294

  1. Virginia Lake Park: Central  RENO Completely fenced, Plumb, South on Lakeside, sharp right just before lake, turn right immediately after playground on the right. Dog park will be on your left.  http://www.cityofreno.com/Index.aspx?page=294

Rainy Day?  Try your local public school.  Great for weekends and holidays. 

Lots of covered walk-ways for you. 

  1. Hidden Valley East RENO Several thousand acres of open space and three completely fenced areas.  McCarran & Rock go East on Rock (Pembrook), pass the stop sign, right on Park Avenue.  Drive to the end, turn left.  http://www.washoecounty.us/parks

    1. 1st fenced dog park is a soccer field with a picnic table and grass.

    2. 2nd fenced park is scruffy sagebrush... with a picnic table and running water. 
    3. The new dog park features separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, a double-gated entry system to provide a secure area to leash and unleash, shaded seating areas, walking paths and watering stations. Opens Sept 18.
    4. 3,  and best,  thousands of acres of open space beyond blocked roads.  Park and hike.

  1. Steamboat Ditch Trail:  South RENO

West on Mayberry, left on Plateau, right on Woodchuck. 4 miles of nearly flat trail running next to a 3' deep irrigation ditch.  GREAT swimming for Spot, Great views for you.

  1. Huffaker Hill:  South RENO

From S. Virginia, East on E. Patriot, right on Portman, left on Offenhouser.  The park is on your right.  Walk through park, over bridge and up trail. Lots of dogs to visit with after 5pm.  http://www.cityofreno.com/Index.aspx?page=294

  1. Timberline Road to Thomas Creek:  South RENO Mt. Rose Hwy

Hwy 431 West, pass the Fire station, 2nd street on right is Timberline.  Drive to the end... becomes a gravel road, cross over a 1 lane bridge.  Turn left, then left again.  Park at the far end of the dirt lot.  There is a trailhead leading to 1.5 miles of trail through the aspens, next to a beautiful creek.  You can continue up to Dry Pond (gorgeous in the spring) via switchbacks.   1. Ophir Creek:  Mt. Rose Hwy.

431 West, over the Summit, past the meadow on your left. Get to the tree line, make a U-turn and park.  Walk through the meadow or take the trails through the trees.  Perfect for snow-shoeing too! 

  1. Sparks Marina:  SPARKS

Enclosed area on the south side of the marina.  Nice beach for dog swimming.

  1. Sparks Open Space:  SPARKS

Hundreds of acres and anirrigation ditch with water (May – Oct).  I80E to Pyramid North, about 4 miles, right on Disc Drive, pass Gold's Gym there is a Speed Limit sign 40mph, turn seconds before that sign.  Follow the gravel road for 1/8 mile, pull over. Hike

Thanks Kim for this info! Baby had a great week with you and her new doggie friends. I'm taking her out tomorrow to explore the open spaces around our house that you listed above. Maybe we'll run into you and your pack sometime!
