It was then when I was abruptly told that a certain other company does guarantee placement, and if she were going to have me build a site, she would demand that the site ranked #1. Before I could offer my assistance in proving the obvious, the conversation was over. But my question has always been, "If Google, Yahoo or Bing won't guarantee a #1 page rank how or why would other companies convince a consumer that they can achieve it?”  In short, I feel it is totally misleading for companies to make these claims, but I can't blame the consumer--- Most will simply believe what they are told because they just don't know what to look for.

I've seen many of these and similar services, claiming they are part of Google, trying to sell my clients services, or SEO/SEM firms who make semi-honest or inappropriate claims-- But I decided to check this particular company out. Here is what I found. This SEO Company provides flat rate SEO/SEM services as well as website design services. At first glance it seems like they do guarantee #1 placement on Google--- Yet, when I continued my research, I found what appears to be another attempt to prey on the consumer's lack of knowledge in search engine optimization and page ranking practices--- Good for the company selling the service, not so good for the unsuspecting and not so knowledgeable consumer.

The first thing I noticed was the cost of the PPC flat rate plans. First I thought, wow, am I in the wrong business! Then thought—if a consumer could not afford our 5 page custom website design package they certainly won't be able to afford this SEO service--- not even if they chose the least expensive option. But to make matters worse, when the SEO company speaks of ranking a consumer’s site #1 gauranteed, they neglect to make clear that you might only rank on page one for keywords that are minimally utilized for your specific industry. Let me give you an example...

Say you sell clocks in Tampa--- Your relevant keywords may be something like clocks Tampa or clock dealers, Tampa. In order to rank your page number one, the company may set up your keywords as tick clocks, or tick tocks, or for that matter it could be as random and insignificant as "UkliDUkl." Basically they are setting up keywords that are not relevant to anything in order to rank your site. However, they do it in a manner where they are adhering to their promise by getting your site ranked on page one, but by using irrelevant keywords. In short, this is a waste of money making the whole process unproductive for your bottom line. In essence most people who are searching for clocks, are going to put in the search term, "Clocks, Tampa" and if you're not found by the consumer that's searching for your product or service, then it's a futile campaign and #1 has no real value.
