My Portland Mold Removal & Mold Cleanup company, Certified Restoration, received a call for a mold inspection from a homeowner who had recent water damage and subsequent mold in a bedroom closet. He had opened the wall and found mold. When I got there, I found that he had removed all the mold damaged drywall in the closet, laid it in a big moldy pile, and had a fan blowing across it and up at the exposed wood in the closet, trying to dry it out.
What he didn’t know was that the fan was actually doing more damage than good; it was most-likely spreading the dangerous mold spores from the closet out into the entire bedroom.
He should have contained the mold contaminated closet to protect the bedroom from mold spores BEFORE removing all the drywall with mold. Unfortunately, this homeowner wasn’t concerned at all about those mold issues; he just wanted me to replace the moldy sheetrock so he could sell his house to this "hot prospect".
It so happened that the "hot prospect" came in while I was there, stated that this bedroom would be for her very young son, and wanted to ensure that all of the mold would be removed. The seller assured her that I was taking care of all the mold. I called her later and expressed my concerns that he would not agree to mold remediation being done in the bedroom and that having a child that young sleep there could be dangerous for his health. The very young and the elderly appear to have the most severe mold allergies or reactions to mold.
She insisted the seller have me submit a new bid for mold removal to correctly remediate the bedroom and closet of mold. From my certification in water damage restoration and mold remediation, I was positive that the reckless mold remediation and mold removal this seller had done in the closet had indeed spread the mold spores into the bedroom.
I convinced him to have me do carpet dust samples to test for mold; one in the closet where he originally found the mold and one in the furthest bedroom corner away from the closet where I suspected mold spores.
What do you think the test results were?
Positive for mold growth in both areas.
SO PLEASE DON'T TOUCH THAT MOLD !!!

We really enjoyed working with all the people at Certified Restoration. They were exactly what I was looking for and they did a great job! The mold technician was a very competent and reassuring young man and we really appreciate his help. I was a bit concerned when I discovered the mold but Certified Restoration made quick work of resolving my concerns. Thanks again. KS
“We recently discovered a modest amount of mold in our attic space. I quickly realized the cause, but wanted to ensure it was professionally cleaned up. Given all the hysteria around mold in recent years, I was quite concerned about finding a conscientious company to help me resolve the problem at a reasonable cost. Someone suggested we call Certified Restoration. We did …and were pleased with the results. They did a great job from the first initial phone call …all the way till the job was completed. They are competent and re-assuring …and, at the same time worked hard to ensure the job was done right. The cost was reasonable. If I had problems with mold again, without hesitation, I would call Certified Restoration and hire them to do the work.” Kelly S, Lacamas Shores

as a native of the pacific nw, i know there is no better place to live ... especially in portland area.
as we all know too well, it is the rain that creates this abounding beauty, and it also creates the perfect environment for mold.
while our city is in great condition with regards to outdoor allergies, our indoor air quality is often-times a different story, especially in all the classic old homes we love to live in here.
a leaky roof, a drippy pipe, even a foggy window, makes for the perfect breeding ground for mold. the result can be itchy eyes, burning skin, a sore throat, a heavy chest, coughing, sneezing ... and any other array of allergy-like symptoms. for the especially-vulnerable; young children, the elderly, the consequences of a moldy environment may be more severe.
the good news is that it can be easily handled by a mold remediation specialist if caught in time. and life is great again our beautiful city ...
