What is the Cost of your Clutter?

    Posted 09:31 AM December 01, 2009

At one point or another, some of us face a mountain of clutter that we have to sort out. For some, it may be their desk at work, for others, it may be a messy room at home. Regardless of where the clutter is, be it home or work, it can take its toll on you in one way or another. The most obvious cost of clutter is being unorganized, which leads to massive amounts of wasted time searching for misplaced items and documents. This wasted time can eventually lead to monetary losses. This is especially true of clutter in the work place. The amount of time wasted searching for documents lost in the pile on ones desk adds up to lost productivity and ultimately money for you and your employer. The time spent looking for lost papers and documents could be much better spent on activities that would generate income for you or revenue for your business. While the time wasted each day may seem minimal over an entire year, the losses can add up to a figure that would make anyone reconsider their poorly organized spaces. How much money is clutter costing YOU? Post your answer in the comments.

Ever Wonder Where Your Trash Goes?

    Posted 09:53 AM October 02, 2009

We throw lots of things away from day to day but most of us don't think about where these items are ultimately going to end up. The best place for unwanted items to end up is at a proper recycling facility. While not all items can be recycled, much of what we dispose of can be recycled and reused so it makes the least amount of impact on the environment.

A recent study conducted in Seattle showed that only 50 percent of what could be recycled is and that the national average is only 38 percent. The resources for recycling are in place, they are just not used enough. If everyone does their part we could easily see a 60 percent recycling rate nationwide. Most items can be broken down into the individual components and recycled. Old televisions are taken apart and the glass and lead are removed and reused. The glass is often times ground up back into sand and the lead is used to insulate hazardous waste containers.

Old furniture can also be recycled. The metal in furniture is generally melted down and reused and wood is ground up and used to make composite board which is used in new furniture and other wooden items. So much of what we dispose of is recyclable, but the problem is that the resources for recycling are not all easily accessible. This is where the College Hunks Hauling Junk can help. We are experts at recycling and will make sure any items we remove find the proper facility so as much as possible can be recycled.

Spring Cleaning BBQ and Sneaker Donation Drive

    Posted 09:24 AM March 30, 2009

Beginning March 15th, 2009, College Hunks Hauling Junk will be collecting used sneakers and tennis shoes to help less fortunate people who cannot afford shoes. If you have any old pairs of sneakers, we will gladly donate them to the cause.

Our goal is to collect and distribute 100,000 to 1,000,000 pairs of used shoes to the underprivileged from all of the College Hunks franchisees.

We are capping off the sneaker drive with a Spring Cleaning BBQ on April 26, 2009, location TBD, so we’d love for you to join us! We will be giving away Junk Bonds for FREE junk removal services and we will have other fun and games for families and kids. Check the College Hunks Hauling Junk Spring Cleaning BBQ page for more updates!

TO ALL YOU HOARDERS! It is now Spring Cleaning time and many people ask us to help them declutter their homes. If you have any areas that need to be cleaned out, remember that we do all of the labor - we actually pull the items out for you and only take what you don’t want and we recycle the rest!

College Hunks Hauling Junk Recycles Concrete

    Posted 01:01 PM March 24, 2008

Typically, our junk removal clients have the notion that concrete ends up in the landfill - that is not true - we recycle it! A recent junk removal job was actually a full 'bedload' of concrete. Since concrete is a much heavier material it is therefore unsafe to load the truck to its full capacity. The ‘Junk Hunks’ load heavier material such as concrete, plaster, dirt, and rocks to only a foot-high in the bed of the truck which constitutes a ‘bedload’ price. The team quickly and efficiently removed the client’s concrete that was previously jack-hammered into smaller pieces by a contractor and they brought it to the concrete recycling yard to be ground down and reused. We can also recycle heavily reinforced concrete that has rebar or other metal in it!

The Junk Hunks Remove a Hot Tub in a Fun Fashion

    Posted 09:05 AM January 10, 2008

Today we had a very interesting and fun junk removal job. A new client had a non-working hot tub that was taking up precious space on her back porch. She hired College Hunks Hauling Junk and since we remove almost anything that is non-hazardous, we came prepared for a big job. The hot tub was too large to carry down the long staircase of the porch so we brought our trusty chainsaw to cut the hot tub into pieces and remove it easily. The chainsaw cut through the hot tub like butter and once the hot tub was in four sections, two Junk Hunks could easily carry the pieces down to our Junk Truck. Once, the hot tub pieces were removed, the client was able to reclaim her valuable space!

It was a little surprising to have to remove a hot tub but the Junk Hunks are always creative and well-prepared for every junk removal job!

College Hunks Hauling Junk Recycles All Metals

    Posted 08:12 AM January 03, 2008

On a recycling note, we completed a junk removal job where every item that we removed from the client’s property was recycled in an environmentally friendly manner at the Denver metal recycling yard. We removed very large items such as computer networking servers housed in metal cases, a ride-on lawn mower (we removed the gas tank and battery), and metal filing cabinets. Not one item ended up in the landfill – we recycled the whole load! We can recycle all types of metals, ferrous, non-ferrous, steel, iron, brass, copper, aluminum, etc. As a soon-to-be LEED-certified company, it is our mission to be as kind to the environment as we can by recycling or donating items from junk removal jobs.

A New Partnership – Kids in Crisis and College Hunks Hauling Junk

    Posted 03:52 PM December 28, 2007

I recently met with the Denver Human Services organization, Friends of Kids in Crisis, which helps children ages 10-18 whose lives have been impacted by neglect or abuse. The non-profit organization provides medical care, dormitory style living, onsite schooling, and family support. Since  College Hunks Hauling Junk come across many useful children’s items we thought a partnership with Kids in Crisis would be an excellent idea. Kids in Crisis is always looking for items such as kids apparel, sporting goods, etc. Today, we donated a blue three sectional couch for the recreation room at the Kids in Crisis building.

So as a client of College Hunks Hauling Junk, you can rest assured that all of your items - that are children-related - are going to the Kids in Crisis organization and inevitably a great home for the items.
