Margaret Diaz, Director and Founder of A Better Way - Victor Valley Domestic Violence Inc. was awarded a $15,000 Community Hero grant from the Safeco Insurance Foundation for her outstanding work and dedication to helping those affected by domestic violence. 

A Better Way was founded in 1988 on a very limited budget.  In 1991, they were able to establish a 24 hour Hotline that provided victims with referrals and support.  In 1992, they achieved their goal of leasing a three bedroom house to serve as an escape for victims of domestic violence and their children.  Now, in 2008, A Better Way has become an invaluable resource to the Victor Valley, operating a 26 bed shelter, transitional housing, outreach educational classes, and servicing over 1,500 clients per year.

We are extremely proud of Mrs. Diaz and A Better Way, and recognize that she truly is a Community Hero.
