• Woodstoves - while some companies have a 20% surcharge for woodstoves, others have a flat fee of $75, and some have no fees or surcharges at all.

• Age of the home - many companies surcharge older homes. Some only surcharge older homes if they have not been updated. Some surcharge whether updates have been made or not. And still others do not  surcharge older homes at all.

• Roof type - Nearly all companies surcharge for wood roofs but the amount can be anywhere from 5% to 25%. Some companies offer 2-5% discounts for tile, slate and metal roofs.
