Next, select the output settings for the video file. This can be done from the presets panel on the right. Simply click on the 'iPhone&iPod; Touch' option and all the output settings will be set in automatically.

Finally, click the Start button, found near Source. Handbrake will begin the encoding process and a command window will open with details about the process.

And the following performance screen shot is from testing on Windows Vista 32 Pentium 4 single core. It seems that the HandBrake occupies too many CPU threads. If you use a dual core processor, the conversion speed will be much faster.

When the process ends the window disappears. For the DVD file is very large - over 4 GB, so it takes me near 9 hours to finish the conversion. And the operation seems to a little difficult for most of new users, it needs too many user define settings.

Part 2: How to Rip DVD to High Definition video with Wondershare DVD Ripper?

Many people complain that the video quality is not as clean as the original DVD after they ripped DVD to standard video. For an ordinary DVD movie is often 7-8 GB in size, if we convert them to standard video formats the size would be hundreds of MB, so we have to face the problem that the code compress process would destroy most of unimportant data and the video quality get bad. You can also select a special effect from the Effect drop-down list for the video. The available choices are Gray, Emboss, Negative, Old film and No effect. Besides, you can select the suitable option from Repeat odd field, Repeat even field, Odd interpolate and Even interpolate in the deinterlacing  drop-down list to adjust the picture's quality, if there are some pixels, lines, mosaics or stripes on the picture.

Note: You can  check “apply to all” option to apply the current effect adjusting of one file to all the selected files.

Design watermark
If you want to add some personal information either in text or image form as watermark to decorate your video, you can realize it by click “Watermark” .

The first smattering of user reactions to RealNetworks' RealDVD software--which allows users to legally rip DVD movies to their PC hard drives--is less than enthusiastic, to say the least. The most telling comment: "Lack of mobile device support is the killer for me." Indeed, Real's product lets you move ripped movies between a total of five licensed PCs, but that assumes they're on a USB hard drive or some sort of flash media--thus far, there's no provision for network streaming, and no support for transferring the movies to portable devices."

Of course, when people say "portable media players," it's pretty much a synonym for "iPod." And while we could imagine Real eventually cutting deals to have devices that are compatible with its proprietary RealDVD format, it's a safe bet that Apple won't be among the partners. But the whole existence of RealDVD raises another question: if Real can release software that makes it quick, easy, and legal for users to rip DVDs to PC hard drive, why can't Apple?

Real's software is built on the legal precedent set by Kaleidescape's 2007 victory over the DVD Copy Control Association. Provided that you are backing up DVDs that you own, doing so for your own personal use, and keeping the copy-protection intact, Real's betting that it, too, can keep the lawyers at bay. Assuming the company is correct, though, that would seem to open the floodgates for other companies to release kosher DVD rippers.

Apple's iTunes already lets you rip audio CDs --indeed, the original iTunes tagline was "Rip, Mix, Burn." One would think adding DVD ripping to iTunes' bag of tricks wouldn't be that big of a challenge. Yes, like Real's solution, an Apple-ripped DVD would have to be locked into a proprietary, DRM-encoded iTunes-only format. But for most people, that'll be a feature, not a bug. You'd pop the disc into your PC, and iTunes would ask how you'd want it ripped: optimized for Apple TV streaming or optimized for iPod/iPhone (i.e. larger, high-res files or smaller downscaled ones). Once it was in iTunes, the files could be transferred within the entire Applesphere of products: the PC desktop (Windows and Mac iTunes libraries), the living room (Apple TV), and the portable realm (iPod and iPhone).

Now, the more digital-savvy among you are already saying, "I can do all of this already." Indeed, there are plenty of freeware/shareware programs that can rip your DVDs into an iTunes-optimized format, at the resolution of your choosing, where you can then do whatever you'd like with the file--including watch it on your PC, stream it to an Apple TV, or transfer it to an iPod or iPhone. But that's still a two-step process (at mininum) that requires a modicum of techie skills to get up and running. By contrast, building the process into iTunes would make it all but a one-click operation.

Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, I think you better keep those underground freeware rippers installed--I don't think we'll be seeing this feature added to iTunes anytime soon, for two reasons. First, it's unclear if Real's legal gambit will pay off.

After all, precedents were made to be overturned, and even if their position isn't legally tenable, deep-pocketed movie studios could try to tie down Real in expensive litigation--enough to make other companies shy away from releasing similar DVD-ripping software.

Secondly--and arguably more importantly--it's not really in Apple's financial interest to add DVD ripping to iTunes. The company wants to expand, not shrink, the demand for its online iTunes Store: Apple makes nothing if you rip a DVD, but it (and its studio partners) split anywhere from $3 to $15 per flick, depending if you rent or buy. The company isn't likely to kill off that revenue stream anytime soon.

I'd love to be wrong on this one. It'd be great if one of the big announcements at Tuesday's Apple event was the addition of DVD ripping to iTunes. But I think this one is going to remain strictly on the "in an ideal world" wish list.

In this article, I will share the free way of creating your own DVDs with your home videos to enjoy them on DVD players, to backup your favorite movie clips on DVD or to share wonderful videos downloaded from limewire or YouTube with friends.
All it takes are the following four steps:
Part1. Import video into Windows Movie Maker(WMM)
Part2. Edit video files
Part3. Save movie
Part4. Burn the edited video to DVD

Part1. Import video into WMM 

The major five editing functions provided by WMM are: Trim/Split/Combine clips, Add effects, Add transitions, Add background audio, and Make titles or credits.

1. Trim, split and combine video clips
You can capture your favorite part from a video file using the Trim function (On the timeline, set the beginning time and click "Clip"->"Trim Beginning, and set the end time and click "Clip"->"Trim End. Then the part starting from the beginning time and end time will be captured. And you can split video into smaller, more manageable clips. For instance, when you want to insert a video transition in the middle of a video clip, you can split the video clip at the point where you want to insert the video transition and then add the desired transition. Conversely, you can combine every two contiguous clips, if you need to.


2. Add effects
You can add any of the video effects that appear in the Video Effects folder in the Collections pane. A video effect is applied for the entire duration that the video clip displays in your movie. It allows you to add up to six effects to every video clip.


3. Add transitions
You can add a transition between two video clips or titles on the storyboard/timeline by dragging the one you want from the Video Transitions folder in the collections pane. The video transition length can be adjusted by dragging in the Transition track of the timeline.


4. Add background audio
You can add background audio by dragging imported audio or a recorded audio narration to Audio/Music track in timeline model. Some of the different audio-related tasks you can perform in Windows Movie Maker include adjust the audio levels; add different audio effects; adjust the volume of audio clips.


5. Make titles or credits
You can add whatever text you want such as the title of your movie, your name, the date, and so forth. And you can add a title to various places in your movie: at the beginning or end of a movie, before or after a clip, or overlaying a clip. The title plays for the specified amount of time by dragging in video track under timeline view. You can customize the animation of any text to determine how the text will be displayed.
 

Part3. Save movie 

1. Insert a blank DVD into your DVD burner and launch Windows DVD Maker
If this is the first time to launch Windows DVD Maker, you will be greeted with the initial welcome screen. Press the "Choose Pictures and Videos" button to go to the main project window, where you can add the video and picture elements.

2. Add edited video and set DVD-Video options
Click the Add Items button and choose the video you want to burn. You can add several files at one time and arrange them by clicking Move Up or Move Down button. By clicking Option button, you can set how your DVD is played, DVD aspect ratio, Video format and temporary file location.


Note: The video format that is currently selected, NTSC or PAL, is based on the Regional and Language Option settings in Control Panel. Those in the United States should have NTSC selected.

3. Ready to burn disc
WDM applies various animated DVD menu styles. You can customize DVD menu, including the font, button style and background audio and video. Slideshow can also be inserted into contiguous video, when you burn more than one video on single DVD. Before burning the final disc, you can see a preview to make sure you like how things look.


Windows DVD Maker is applied in premium editions (Home Premium and Ultimate) of Windows Vista. If you are a user of any other edition, you can download a similar application named DVD Burner.

Tips: Some video files have black video sides around them. If you want to remove these black sides, you can crop them off, but WMM does not have the "Crop" function. If this function is important to you, you can use a professional DVD Burner
