About Eyelash Extensions
Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent, meaning they should last between two to six weeks, and sometimes more, depending on the person.  They are comprised of individual synthetic eyelashes that are curled to replicate a natural eyelash.  The lashes used at HD Medspa Clinic are thicker at the base and taper to a fine point, simulating a natural eyelash.  These eyelashes are applied to individual natural eyelashes, one at a time, for a sensuous, natural and elegant look—one that lengthens and adds fullness to existing lashes.

Material Composition of Eyelash Extensions
Eyelashes come in different styles, materials, thicknesses and colors in order to accentuate and complement different skin types and hair thickness.  At HD Medspa Clinic, you have a choice of either synthetic, hypoallergenic polymer eyelashes or mink eyelash extensions, both of which naturally mimic and enhance the natural beauty of human eyelashes.

1.  Why should I get eyelash extensions?
For some clients, lengthening their natural lashes is the primary goal; others want their lashes to look fuller.  And others want to darken their existing lashes to avoid having to go through the daily grind of putting on eyeliner and mascara.  Through highlighting and layering, eyelash extensions offer the ability to change the look of the eye altogether, creating a variety of different looks.  Exciting, mysterious, sexy and glamorous eyes are yours to have.  The tough part is deciding!

2.  Will I look younger?
More than likely, yes.  You will notice that eyelash extensions offer the added benefit of creating a younger, happier and healthier appearance.

You will no longer have to spend time applying makeup, like mascara and eyeliners.  Your eyelashes will appear bigger at the base, creating the same effect as eyeliner, so the daily drudgery of eyeliner application can be avoided.  You will have the appearance of having put significant effort into your eye makeup regime, when, in fact, you simply rolled out of bed!  No application of eye makeup and no need for removal at the end of the day will allow you to have more time to spend with love ones and other personal activities that you couldn't do before, because of time constraints eaten up by your beauty regime.  What's more, your eyes will look as beautiful in the morning as in the evening, day after day, night after night.

3.  How long will my eyelash extensions stay on?
Eyelash extensions will remain in place until the natural lash on which it was applied, falls out.  Everyone is different, but on average, the timeframe between full applications is one to two months.  HD Medspa clinic offers a complementary "touch-up" two weeks after the initial application to extent this timeframe.

4.  What is the basic physiology of natural eyelash attrition?
One to five natural eyelashes typically fall out each day (depending on the person and their individual growth cycle).  For shorter natural lashes, the growing and shedding cycle is unnoticeable.  The grow-in and fall-out cycles of natural eyelashes is around 60 to 90 days.  When a natural lash matures and falls out, a new lash replaces it without visual notice of the turnover.  This process is constant and at any moment, natural lashes will be at various stages of maturity.  Some eyelashes are just growing in while others are ready to shed and fail out.

5.  What happens when the eyelash extension fails off?
It is more noticeable when eyelash extensions are shed because they are longer and darker than natural lashes.  With or without extensions, eyelashes naturally fail off.  The basic application procedure involves applying primarily to those lashes that are in the middle of their maturation cycle to maximize the amount of time they will last, without jeopardizing the health of the early cycle lashes.  In doing so, the eyelash extensions fall out with the natural lash it is attached to when it reaches the late phase of the eyelashes' growth cycle.  A few eyelash extensions may be shed within the first week because the attached natural lashes are at the end of their growth cycle, so this is no indication of the quality of the application.   However, most applied eyelashes will remain in place for approximately four to six weeks and possibly longer, depending on the person.

With proper care and maintenance, touch-ups are typically only needed once every 2 to 4 weeks to replace the lashes that have shed.  During the touch-up procedure, extensions will be added to the newest nature natural lashes to maintain a beautiful, full, lush appearance.

6.  How much time does it take to apply a full set?
The application of a full set of eyelash extensions takes approximately 90 to 120 minutes.  Touch-up applications are completed between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on individual differences.

7.  What happens during the application process?
You will be taken to a secluded, quiet and calming application area and will be asked to recline on your back on a comfortable exam table.  You will be covered with a thin bed sheet.  Your eyes will be closed while our highly trained eyelash aesthetician hand applies each eyelash extension one by one, to your own natural eyelashes.  There is no discomfort or pain involved in the procedure.  The time will go faster than you think and most clients find the experience to be both relaxing and stress less.

8.  Who are not candidates for Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions can only be applied to existing, natural lashes, so natural lashes must be present in order to participate in this procedure.  Eyelash extensions should not and cannot be applied to clients who have:

• No eyelashes
• Alopecia
• Trichotillomania, or are
• Undergoing chemotherapy

Therefore, it is essential to have normal lashes to have eyelash extensions applied.  To ensure medical appropriateness, Dr. Diaz will provide a professional consultation prior to application procedures.

9.  Why do I need a highly trained aesthetician provide this service when I have applied fake eyelashes on myself in the past?
For eye safety purpose, only a highly trained, professional eyelash aesthetician should apply eyelash extensions.  Untrained, unprofessional or self-application may cause a potential eye injury, lash damage, or uneven and aesthetically unpleasant looking lashes.  In addition, the two hour procedure takes a great deal of artist skill, patience and physical endurance.  Each eyelash application involves bonding synthetic extensions to the natural eyelash one lash at a time in order to achieve a natural look.  By employing a professional you will ensure that the results will be beautifully long, thick and natural looking eyelashes.
