The City of Pella recently adopted a Commercial Building Code and updated the Residential Building Code.  These new building standards will promote building safety, public health and welfare for our citizens.  Permits will soon be required for new construction, additions and remodels.  Construction exempt from permits and inspections include carpet, painting, cabinets, counters and similar work.  In an effort to allow the public time to become familiar with the new ordinances, a phased in schedule was approved.  Electric inspections will begin October 1, 2009 with the fee schedule fully enforced by January 1, 2010.  Likewise, requirements for Commercial plan review submittals and building inspections are effective October 1, 2009 with the fee schedule in effect and fully enforced January 1, 2010.  If you have any questions call Building Official, Jerry Beyers at 641-628-1601. 
The insurance industry has welcomed the new Iowa licensing with open arms.  They know that work done since the first of the year which does not meet the new rules means they do not have to pay claims.  If your house burns down and the work was not in compliance with the State of Iowa Licensing Program and Inspections, they do not have to pay your claim.  I would like to be your contractor but if not, hire someone who is a listed contractor with the State of Iowa, is licensed, insured and bonded.  

We moved!! Our home accents/baby item boutique has moved to a new location in the beautiful historic downtown Pella! : ) After being in business for 2 and a half years we moved to a cute little building closer to the BIG windmill! We freshly remodeled the location and have added more charm and character to our little boutique. We moved in March of 2008, and just celebrated our three years of buisness in June!
