Rothstein Jewelers is Donating to the Homeless in L.A.

    Posted 02:57 AM February 12, 2009

Give to Our Local Homeless and Receive Discount on Jewelry

Janet Rothstein, owner of J. Rothstein Jewelers of Beverly Hills, encounters many homeless people every day in downtown Los Angeles - right in the Jewelry District. She even knows some of the "regulars" by name. They live on the sidewalks and behind alley dumpsters. They dig through the trash for food and recyclable bottles and cans. Some are currently going to rehab programs for alcohol dependence. Many have medical problems or injuries, and no doctor.

They all need food and clothing, and for some, money specifically for a room to stay in overnight during these cold and rainy nights. Many don't have a place to shower, so they look and smell dirty. One has said that there she won't go to a shelter because of the "contagious sick people" there, as well as a long waiting line for the shortage of beds.

This woman "Angel" has had leg injuries, and very few teeth left. She tells me stories: Someone stole her money... someone threw her cat out the window...It's her birthday!...

There are countless more homeless people including children, living in cardboard lean-to's, stretching down entire blocks around Main Street.

    J. Rothstein Jewelers of Beverly Hills is doing Ear Piercing for $20 (including 24K surgical steel earrings) and will donate 10% of all the sales through March 2009 towards food and clothing for the homeless.

If you prefer to contribute to our cause of helping these unfortunate homeless people, you may bring in donations of food or clothing yourself. In turn, we will give you a 10% discount on your ear piercing, gold or silver jewelry, or jewelry repairs.

We will also donate 10% of all internet, email, or phone-in orders through March 2009. We continually search through our own cupboards and closets all year long for items to donate, and encourage you to do the same.

    Thank you so much,
    ~Janet Rothstein

    Reputable Jewelers

    Posted 07:46 PM January 24, 2009

If you are looking for a Reputable Jeweler in Beverly Hills or West Los Angeles, please visit J. Rothstein Jewelers in Beverly Hills.  We do appraisals without keeping your precious&sentimental jewelry for long periods of time.   When you bring your diamond rings in for repair work, we show you with the lighted magnifier what your diamonds look like inside and out, so you will recognize it upon pick-up. (Your rings get professionally cleaned & polished, so sometimes they look too good!)  I will even take a close-up digital photo of your diamond beforehand, and email it to you!

If you bring in loose stones or gold to sell, we weigh them right in front of you before we custom - design your new jewelry.  For delicate antiques and vulnerable stones, we use the latest LASER technology for ring sizing and soldering.  We want you to be comfortable with us handling your heirlooms or new engagement rings.

I do the pearl and bead restringing myself.  We change watch batteries while-you-wait, even for most Movado, Omega, Raymond Weil, Cartier, Tag Heuer, etc.  For Rolex watch service, we employ a man with over 25 years experience.  He used to work for Rolex in Switzerland! We give a one year warrantee on watch service.   We do engraving, but not in our store. Our engravers are very trustworthy. One does the most beautiful hand-engraving!

Please read the reviews about us in the yahoo! local web pages for Beverly Hills, and check out the Testimonials on our main website and on MerchantCircle.  We are in the top rankings in the Google  search results for Jewelry Repair, Jewelry Appraisals, & Ear Piercing in 90211! We really value our customers and strive for long-term customer relationships.  We want you to be happy with our services, as we depend mostly on referrals by word-of-mouth and our internet reputation.

Our prices are low.  We are NOT in the overpriced high-rent district of Beverly Hills, but in the local neighborhood: 8950 W. Olympic Blvd. at LaPeer. We're in that great little mall, above La Provence Patisserie, LaPeer Beauty Supply, Fed/EX & Chef Ming's Chinese restaurant.  Down the hall is Flier Furs, Tamara de Beauty Skiincare, AD Fitness, and David Dru Salon (& more). I mention this because these are all really nice independent business owners with Great Reputations!  We have survived this roller coaster economy, and hope to continue serving the family of our loyal customers, and making new ones for life.

Thank you.  We wish you all a better 2009!  ~Janet Rothstein 310.858.3800

Jewelry Business Surviving in This Horrible Economy

    Posted 07:21 PM October 01, 2008

This has been the most horrible year of our lives, as I can remember.  Our business is down, our profits have shrunk to accommodate our customers' budgets and our expenses have skyrocketed.  The Gold Market follows the oil price, both of which go up when our dollar is down.  Investors seem to want the security of Gold Bullion when the Stock Market is uncertain, so that raises our costs.  We Jewelers have to live our lives by the news reports each day. And world politics create spikes in the Gold Market as well.  So our Jewelry products & parts actually cost us more or less depending on the news!  Plus, the gasoline costs double now, when I drive to buy those parts!

I wish we could simply raise prices like the oil companies & credit card companies, but we can't!    What's important to most people is food, rent, mortgage, gas, clothing, health care, school supplies, etc.  Since 2001, things have been getting worse.  Not just in the banking industry, but our air travel has been affected greatly.  Not just the cost of tickets, and inconvenient lines & carry-on rules, but now we can't check as much luggage - so our Jewelry displays and equipment have been pared down, too - so we can't possibly sell as much at our shows as we used to.

But we are surviving in the Jewelry Business, unlike many of our other Jeweler friends - we provide many services (repairs, appraisals, restringing, re-designing, ear piercing...) and we are buying more old Gold Jewelry from customers in this economy than selling Gold Chains like we used to, although Gold Coins have been selling well!    We are still hanging in there, because of the loyalty of many of our wonderful customers, and their referrals.  We get great reviews and comments, because of how we treat our customers.  We are compassionate, we are funny, and we are good! Sometimes things take longer than planned, but we take great pride in our work.

I pray that this election we will have someone in the White House who cares about "Main Street" instead of "Wall Street" & their friends in their pockets. We need money back in our pockets!  Does the Bailout help small businesses like ours?  How about bailing out the PEOPLE of the United States instead of just the few BIG ones, (where probably the CEOs knew in advance of the failing & took all their millions out early??)  Small businesses are what made this country great, and seem to get hit the hardest.  Look at how many people there are here on Merchant Circle, just trying to improve their own lives, networking, promoting, sharing, surviving... without getting any relief in handouts.   Best of luck to all of us! ~Janet

    EAR-PIERCING AFTER-CARE & ADVICE

    Posted 04:05 PM August 16, 2008

AFTER-PIERCING CARE  &  ADVICE           EAR CARE PROCEDURES

***Scroll down to the end to ask a question - click the word comments, then scroll down to the bottom... You have to type in the code word twice! Then make sure yours got posted! ***

Though post- ear piercing complications are very rare when using our high quality, pre-sterilized Studex studs as directed, statistics show that the greatest percentage of all post- ear piercing complications are caused through negligent after-care procedures performed by the customer.  In order to promote a trouble-free healing process, all customers receiving an ear piercing with Studex studs should observe the following after-care advice:

~Wash hands and finger-tips thoroughly before touching studs or ears. (Purell works well, too.)
~Dip new Q-tip in Isopropyl rubbing alcohol
(91% is best) and apply between the earring and your ear in front and in back. Rotate studs 2 or 3 times, twisting them right and left, 1/2 turns only (to avoid wrapping hair around the posts). You can also apply Neosporin CREAM or our MediSept Ear Care Solution.
Do this at least once a day.

~In between cleansing, keep ears DRY. After shampooing, make sure to rinse your ears well. Apply alcohol or Ear Care Solution and gently blow-dry or fan your ears.
~Keep hairspray and hair gel (& Cell Phones) away from the ear - they attract undesirable dirt and bacteria.
~Leave studs in ears for 6 weeks continuously. (12 weeks for cartilage)  After 6 (or 12) weeks  the piercing studs can be removed, and other post-type earrings may be worn continuously.  Remember to sterilize any new earrings with alcohol before insertion. (Also clean the ones you take out.)
~Use only post style earrings for the first 4 months after piercing
(12 months for cartilage).  The post should be surgical stainless steel or other hypo-allergenic material, such as 14K or 18K solid gold - no costume.  Sterling silver is OK after 6 months, but that sometimes annoys the ear. Lightweight hoops or dangles are OK after 3 months.  Keep some earrings in most of the time, for at least a year.
~Avoid swimming pools the first few days (chlorine).
~Minor pain/redness may occur immediately - this is normal. This should settle within 24 to 48 hours provided proper after-care procedure is carried out.  If undue pain/swelling/redness occurs at any time, seek medical advice immediately, before removing the ear-piercing stud.

*** After the 6 weeks, re-apply alcohol and/or Neosporin every month, and also whenever you feel sensitivity in your ear piercing.  Check behind your ear to make sure the backing is not too tight! You should be able to twist the earring freely.  Sometimes kidney wire, hoops or leverbacks leave more "room to breathe."
Best to remove and clean your earrings every month or so if you like leaving them in all the time.

    • Tip: If you don't have alcohol handy, use warm salt-water or Hand Sanitizer.
    • Clean the ends of your eyeglasses - they carry germs, too.

      DO NOT:

~Remove the studs before 6 weeks, or handle your ears unnecessarily or with dirty hands.
~Push the earring backs too tight into your ear. The backings must be positioned in the groove at the tip of the post. Feel the earring back when you cleanse your ear - it should feel even with the post.

    EAR CARTILAGE:
Due to the nature of ear cartilage, extra care should be observed during the healing period.  Minor pain/redness may occur immediately - this is normal.  This should settle within 48 hours provided proper after-care routine is carried out. If undue pain/swelling/redness occurs at any time, seek medical advice immediately, before removing the ear-piercing stud.  Failure to properly follow after-care procedure or to seek medical advice or attention should a problem occur, may result in scarring to the ear cartilage.

After 6 weeks, you may choose to remove the training earrings yourself, or return to your professional ear piercer, so that we can clean, inspect and approve you for new earrings!

My favorite age to start ear piercing is around age 7. We will do 1-year-olds and above, but for babies we need a parent and a helper. Bring her something to drink or a pacifier, and a toy.

Go to our website for more photos, including the Ear Piercing Gun and Studs.

Scrap Your Gold Now! Trust Us With Your Memories.

    Posted 07:49 PM June 06, 2008

Now is the time to look thru your jewelry box for old Gold and Platinum jewelry: single earrings, out-dated styles, inherited baubles, gold coins, and broken jewelry.  Bring it to us and we will analyze it for purity and value.  Together we can design for you something gorgeous that you will enjoy wearing, using your old stuff for credit.  Or if you just want the money, we can pay you right away.  The Gold Market just spiked UP again December 1st, almost $1400 per ounce!    Call for more info. (310)858-3800.

Wouldn't you feel much  more comfortable bringing your valuable and sentimental jewelry to someone you trust? At least you can meet the actual people who do the designing and much of the work.   Read our customers' reviews!  We test the gold right in front of you.  We show you with a lighted magnifier what your diamonds or gemstones look like inside, so you really know you are getting back your original stones.  You can make new keepsakes out of precious old ones by wearing your loved one's stones in your new rings, pendants, or earrings.  We even have wax molds you can look thru for ideas.

Don't just send your jewelry off into a pre-labeled package to some new "fly-by-night" company!!  How do you know you'll ever get any money at all?  Where did these people pop up from?  Will they send you back your jewelry that is not solid gold, but still worth keeping?  Are you just going to cross your fingers, throw it in the mail,  & hope it works??

Well, I hope you read our reviews by real customers on each of the local search pages, and go to the testmonial page of our website: www.RothsteinJewelers.com.  We have been in business in the SAME location since 1989!  Even when people ship us their old gold we call them to let them know it got here safe and will be taken care of soon. With the Gold  Market being so high right now, we are scrapping lots of Gold, Platinum, and love to make new memories out of old.   We also give you back your "non-scrappable" jewelry, because maybe you can give it as a gift to a child, or donate it to one of our charities.  (More about that in our next blog.)       See you soon!    ~Janet R.
