Jelly Bean Jackpot

Sun Apr 08 21:08:27 US/Eastern 2007

The video rental store in our area had a jelly bean count contest for Easter weekend and I happened to stop there last Friday while enjoying a day off from work. I have won a jelly bean counting contest once before (some years ago) but for that contest the grand prize was a dinner for two in Portland. The second prize was a gift certificate from LL Bean in Freeport and the third prize was the jelly beans. Anyway I never made it to the restaurant for the dinner and I always wished I'd had the gumption to speak up at the time and offer to swap the third prize winner for the beans.... oh well.

So back to this past weekend. I used the same technique to guess the number of beans as I had done before, I came up with a pretty high number and was hesitating a bit about it, but then I figured it was worth using the first number I came up with as well as any other number so I stuck with it .

Imagine my surprise when I got a call on Saturday morning that I had won the contest! And I was under by just one bean! Besides the beans I won a pass for 20 free video rentals!!! When I got the beans home and put them into canning jars I was shocked how many it took. Three of the full quart jars, three small jelly jars, two larger mug size jars, one medium jelly jar and a single cup canning jar. What a load of beans!! OK how many you wonder? One thousand four hundred forty one beans (1441) my guess was 1440, what funny cheerful luck for the day, I felt like I'd won a real jackpot.

Happy Easter everyone!!!

Origins ~ which did come first? Does anyone really know?

Hello and greetings from Palermo!

I must say I never actually planned to be in "business" but if you want to sell things on any sort of regular basis then you need to have a tax ID number and charge sales tax, next thing you know you are officially in business!

Well, here I am four years later, still not likely to ever really break even, but I can sell my ornaments and buy some of the materials and supplies at wholesale prices so maybe someday I can actually claim to make a profit (or at least break even.

Any way I LOVE my art hobby of creating eggshell ornaments and I self published my very own step by step full color photo illustrated craft book and even though sales are not what anyone would call "brisk", I do make a few sales here and there and that gives one a sense of accomplishment.

So do YOU ever wonder how eggshells are cut and decorated? Mine are not the dyed or blown eggs, nor the laser etched ostrich sized ones; simple chicken eggs in a variety of sizes, some cut as baskets, some as basinettes, others like perfect blobs of clouds with the lovely Hagen Renaker Pegasus nestled in for a rest. But most are a standard ornament style with a trim hanger to be hung upon a display tree.

Interested? Please visit my web site at http://www.eggcentricity.com perhaps you will be intrigued enough to try it yourself (you can order one of my books) - or you may see an egg you'd like to have for yourself or as a gift. I can do special orders for just about anything you can think of so don't be shy! Drop me a note and I'll be happy to contact you to work out details for your special egg.

Thanks for stopping by ~ p.s. - I'm guessing the egg came first.....
