The following accident emphasizes the need to care and even consider a helmet when riding highways. Also, keep in mind that a majority of motorcycle accidents occur within the first six months of purchase of a motorcycle.
A motorcyclist was killed on US 27 near near Clermont Wednesday during the afternoon commute.
The rider, only 21, died when he tried to illegally pass a semi-trailer and a dump truck by going in between the two rigs on his motorcycle.
The motorcycle rider's 2005 Suzuki motorcycle hit the rear tires of the dump truck and was thrown under the tractor trailer in the left lane. He was thrown from the bike and died on the highway. He was not wearing a helmet.
The rider had a motorcycle endorsement on his license and had purchased the bike only on August 16, which means this rider had only operated this particular motorcycle for less than one month.
Always consider wearing a helmet on highway rides. In addition, avoid highways if at all possible until you have riden that particular motorcycle for at least six months. It may seem like a long time, but, it will greatly lessen your chances of a serious accident. Daytona and Orlando are highly congested areas with motor vehicles. It is best to ride on county roads as you get accustomed to your bike.
