    How to Achieve Success

    Posted 11:31 AM August 24, 2011

The good news is that there is no secret formula or magical key to success. Anybody can learn how to achieve success by developing such personal qualities as persistence, strength, high moral values and hard work.

Persistence or tenacity could be the most important ingredient in success. Most successful women achieve their goals not because they are the smartest or the most capable but because they simply did not giving up. In many cases, all that is required for success is to stay in the game.

Quite a few women do not develop this quality - instead they get discouraged and loose their motivation. This occurs because these women do not have any successful role models. It is very easy to get discouraged and frustrated when you go it alone.

Therefore one of the best ways to learn how to achieve success is to spend time around successful women. Simply seeing and talking to others who have achieved their goals and overcome obstacles can motivate you to stay in the game.

    Networking for Success

Organizations like the National Association of Professional Women, community groups, business groups and alumni associations are a great place to meet other successful women. They are also a good refuge from a male dominated business environment.

Networking is another key to success in addition to motivation, successful people need contacts. Successful women need a support network and sometimes a person to talk to. Networking can provide that as well as career advice and goal setting.

Anybody can be successful as long as they do not give up. The most successful women are usually the most tenacious and those with the most faith. Contact with other successful women can give you that faith and strength of character.

Learning how to achieve success is easy as long as you do not give up. The more friends you m

    The Recipe for Success

    Posted 05:01 AM July 25, 2011

The recipe for success in business is a very one: networking. People who get out and network and make contacts succeed. Those who hide in their cubicles do not.

Networking is vital for success and critical for women. You must network because it is the only way to learn about the opportunities and be in a position to take advantage of them. Studies indicate that most professionals find their jobs through networking.

Networking can help you do many things including find jobs, recruit new team members, establish new business relationships, find new customers and locate new strategic partners. If you do not network you will not succeed because you will not be able to locate any new business.

One of the best ways to network is to participate in as many business and professional organizations as you can. Groups like the National Association of Professional Women give you a chance to network. That means to meet other professionals and develop relationships with them.

Networking with women can be even more beneficial, because women like to network and develop relationships. Networking with professionals in your industry or field enables you to keep up on trends and learn what is going on. No successful professional relies solely on the media for information.

The most successful professionals develop a network of contacts that provides them with the information that they need. The only way to stay abreast of trends and developments in the field, is to be in constant contact with others in the field. The more contacts you have the better informed you will be.

As business becomes larger and more complex, networking becomes more important because it is the only way to stay informed. We live in an information age in which knowledge is power, networking is the key to getting and keeping that power.

Networking truly is the recipe for success. The more adept you get at it the more successful you will be.

What Most Successful Women Have in Common

    Posted 01:22 AM July 15, 2011

Successful women all have a few traits that are common in their genetic make-up. These are the factors that helped build them into the powerhouses that they are. This article serves to examine these characteristics.

Successful women exude an indefinable aura that we can’t put our finger into. Successful women examples are Madame Curie and Madonna who are worlds apart from each other. Martha Stewart and Lady Gaga are as different as night and day but are both successful women. The list is long and so are their individual characteristics. But all these women have something in common. They are all successful in their own field.

In a world where consumerism reigns supreme and money is what makes the world go round, everyone knows that to be successful, you have to be rich in today’s parlance. And to be doubly successful, you have to be not only rich, but also famous. Remember being anonymously rich is one thing, but being rich and famous is another. We are talking about the really lucky ones who are not only rich, but are equally famous as well.

Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart, Mrs. Debbie Fields, the Olsen twins, etc. all are so different from  one another, but they are bound by the same characteristics; the tangible and undefinables  that have made them into what they are. Women who tower head and shoulders from the rest of mankind, male and female alike.

And what are these common denominators that that they each have? Let us have a look:

    1.     The air of strength. And it shows in their personality. All exude strength of character and an independent spirit. An aura of invincibility which seems to say; nothing can hurt me. They don’t possess that look of vulnerability which Marilyn Monroe and the rest of her kind had, half-a century ago.

    2.    Confidence. They exude confidence, in every move and breath they take. They have none of that tentative, meek and mild air that many thought was fashionable many moons ago. They are sure of themselves, and dead sure of what they want. Self-assurance is written all over them. They all have the look of a winner.

    3.    Look of power and ruthlessness. There is power, if not wisdom in the way they look and carry themselves. And a certain amount of ruthlessness, too. This goes with the trade. They have gone through their individual baptism of fire, have felt the whiplash of misfortune and degradation at some point in their life.

    4.    Look of toughness and dominance. Most of these personalities appear tough and hard as nails, because that is how they survived and reached the top of the heap.

    The Downside of Success

    Posted 01:18 AM July 14, 2011

Success like anything in life has two sides, the positive and the negative. Since the glint of success is shiny, it usually blinds us to the not-so-good things that can be associated with it. This article serves to take a look at some of the factors that may suffer if one is not too careful.

Success, so they say is wine that envelops and drowns you in its own sweetness.  With success comes power. And their combined effect on you can be dangerous, if not disastrous. You have to learn how to handle it lest success overpowers you and drags you down to the depth of destruction. Like all things, it exacts its own price.

And what is this price? If you are the stuff that Onassis and Mde. C. J. Walker are made of, then this would not be much of a problem. They have weathered so many personal holocausts in their time that they have developed desensitizing powers, or a shell as hard and as tough as the turtle’s.

Here are the downsides of success. Maybe after this, you may have second thoughts about becoming superrich and successful and start asking if it is worth all the trouble.

    1.    The potential threat of losing your equilibrium. The taste of success is overpowering. Especially if they come in large dose. You end up losing your sanity to a certain extent. There would be grey lines that would blur your sense of right and wrong, especially in the emotionally shattering world of show business.

    2.    Insulation  Once you are up there, you build  knowingly or unknowingly, a wall that now separates you form the rest of the world, sometimes even from your closest allies or your loved ones. Insulation breeds loneliness, and most of all becoming out of touch with reality and the outside world. Many heads of state suffered from this, and we can only guess what they went through.

    3.    The seed of suspicion  Being now installed in Mt. Olympus, you begin to wonder who are your real friends and enemies, who will stab you in the back to gain control of your power or your wealth. Suspicion has now reared its ugly head. You may undergo a change in your attitude and in dealing with people.

    4.    Danger to your health and well being. Peace of mind and that comfortable feeling of just letting yourself go anywhere without a care in the world may become a luxury you can no longer afford. Your time may no longer be your own, and time with your family and loved ones will surely suffer

    5.    Living in a state of fear You will be always looking back afraid someone will come and wrestle all that you enjoy now. Life will always be a constant struggle to remain at the top.

Sooner than later, stress will take a toll on your health and well being. This is the high price you have to pay for success.

    Securing Loans for Small Business

    Posted 08:31 AM May 25, 2010

Please note that the following article is printed with permission from the author. The views expressed are solely those of the author and are not necessarily those of the National Association of Professional Women.

Most people need loans at one time or another when they are starting or running a small business. Women in business can take help of the available loan opportunities as well if they wish to build a successful and profitable small business to attain their dream goal of financial freedom. This is not an easy task but the loans can provide you with the first step which includes the funding for the project you have in mind. Once you have the proper funding you can go ahead and take part in some kind of association or group like the National Association of Professional Women or NAPW which can guide you further on maintaining a successful business.

There are a number of ways to secure a loan which include all forms of government loans and grants as well, that are specifically designated for women entrepreneurs. Business grants are great way to receive funding for the project you have in mind and take a good start. Among the sources that can get you these loans and grants is the Small Business Administration or the SBA which is an organization meant to help you achieve proper funding for the small business you have. The SBA also has some loans specifically for women business owners. You can visit a branch of the SBA in your state for more information. Another thing you can do is to check out state level business loans from the government. These business grants are easier to achieve than federal grants and you can check specifically for the women's business grants available.

To secure a good loan you will need to have a grant proposal ready which is a kind of detailed essay about why you need the money and how you are going to spend it. These must be written in a formal way and should be very organized and free from mistakes and errors. You can also have a relative or friend look over the grant proposal to check for such problems.

Common Networking Issues for Professional Women

    Posted 07:29 AM May 18, 2010

Please note that NAPW occassionally allows members and guests to post articles of interest on the NAPW Merchantcircle Blog, however these posts in no way reflect the opinions of NAPW or it's President Matt Proman.

You can attend all the networking events you want and you might still be left with no success when it comes to business contacts. If this is the case with you then you need to stop and reassess the information that you have and figure out if you are committing some potential mistakes that many others  commit when networking.

Joining a business related community or group like the National Association of Professional Women is a great idea to get invitations to networking events and it can be a valuable way to get more business contacts.  But that is not enough!

The first way to avoid networking failures is to ensure that your personal behavior is appropriate.  Many people also feel like they should go about aggressively selling their services or products to the people at networking. This is a wrong assumption and it will not work. You cannot distribute your pamphlets and brochures because all this should be done at a separate scheduled meeting. Doing this at networking events can be seen as rude, amd can will eliminate any chances you may have of forming business contacts.

When it comes time to talk to the individuals, it is always better to give the conversation about five minutes because it will be imposing to grab that one person throughout the event. You must remember that all those people are here to look for potential business relationships and they must be left to form some on their own while you too can look for other potential candidates. Following these tips will definitely enhance your networking experience.

Female Entrepreneurs Can Get Government Business Loans

    Posted 07:09 AM April 30, 2010

Please note that the following blog post does not necessarily reflect the views of NAPW. The National Association of Professional Women occasionally allows members and guests to post on our blog, however the views of these blog posts are solely those of the author and not those of NAPW or Founder Matthew Proman.

Government business loans and grants are available for women from all professional backgrounds. Although you can also apply for non-specific business loans, loans or grants that are meant specifically for women may be easier to obtain and sometimes offer more flexibility than regular loans. Women from all monetary and professional backgrounds can apply for these grants. Whether it is by starting a new business or helping a previous business in expansion to increase profits, these grants can be very helpful indeed. If you become a part of some professional organization like the National Association of Professional Women or NAPW you can get even more tips from women who have gone through the same issues that you have and have made their businesses profitable.

If you wish to receive more details about such grants and loans available check with the Small Business Administration. They will have specific grants for women available which they can help you with. There are many funding opportunities available for women with these grants and you can use the money to begin a new small business or maintain and enhance an existing business. It is entirely up to you how you decide to spend the money. The Small Business Administration or the SBA has branches all over the country and provide a variety of funding options depending on the state.

If you do not have any previous defaults and bad credit histories, you will be able to secure these governments loans quite easily and without any problems. But if you do have that problem then you can look into some of the bad credit loans and no credit check loans that are also available these days. Some of these loans are available from private lenders for people with business ideas so all you have to do is plan out a credible business proposal.

Again, please keep in mind that the views expressed are not those of Matt Proman or The National Association of Professional Women. Thank you.

    Small Business Sole Proprietorship

    Posted 11:01 AM April 08, 2010

The following should not be construed as legal advice in any way. Before forming a company, corporation, or partnership, consult with an attorney.

There is a lot of discussion these days about the problems that the bad economy has brought about to the people who have small businesses or even for people who were at steady jobs. With so many people being laid off in so many companies, everyone is thinking of financial freedom of some kind that will help them live a better life. One of the ways that most people think of to achieve this freedom is to start up small businesses. Many professional associations like the NAPW or the National Association of Professional Women are being joined by people who feel these associations can help them out.

Joining such associations is definitely a good idea for a lot of reasons. But before you open up a small business it is important that you look at which option is actually better suited to you in terms of sole proprietorship. There are many pros to having sole proprietorship including the simplicity of beginning the business and having least paperwork and tax troubles to keep a track of. There is no record keeping as such and all these advantage might seem like a good idea in the beginning. But this can change when debts are incurred and the entire liability comes on the single person's shoulders. LLCs or limited liability companies are much better in this regard because these companies ensure a contract that makes each individual to account for the equity that they put in.
With a simple fee of about a hundred dollars, an LLC can be easily formed and does not require a lot of document like a corporation does. The taxes are returned in the same way and are linked to the persons linked to the LLC but it can also be returned to one person which is just like it would happen in a sole proprietorship so there is no difference there. Either of these popular options are good but it depends on the person seeking financial freedom to decide which one they should adopt.

The views expressed above should in no way be construed as legal advice, and is not necessarily the opinion of NAPW or President Matthew Proman.

    Using Facebook for Business Networking

    Posted 10:57 AM April 08, 2010

Social networking sites are not just good for creating personal contacts but they are also good for business networking of all kinds. Although getting enrolled with an association like The National Association of Professional Women might be a good idea when it comes to networking with professional from your field, you have to take up other means of networking as well to ensure that you do your best to increase the profits for your business.

Facebook is one of the most popular networking sites which can be used to make business contacts as well. Since membership to this site is free, it is the easiest networking tool to have for your benefit.
When setting up your personal profile it is important that you make it look very professional and sincere and avoid any immature items that might not look good in front of potential customers or business contacts. Whatever information you list must be interesting and you should remember that this will be displayed to all the people in your friends list. You should also put down the names of your business and give an access address for your business website or online portfolio. The best way to get connected with new contacts on this site is to look for groups related to your business. People with those interests can be found on these groups.

Businesses also have the option of building additional pages which can also be of help to the potential customers and it can give them more information. If you have any events where you would like to invite these people that are also part of your business contacts, you can do that as well. This can help you get those people together some place where they can learn more about your business and what services you have to offer.
