Promotional Marketing in a Tough Economy

It is so amazing how many businesses mistakenly buy into all the fear being spread by the media in regards to the economy. Sure things are really bad in many sectors of the economy, but now is not the time to panic or to stop spending your marketing dollars. Every single time we see a downturn in the economy the first thing executives cut is their company's advertising and marketing expenses. Unfortunately that is it the last thing that should be reduced.

In fact, most business experts agree that companies should actually INCREASE their marketing and promotional budgets during economic downturns. Promotional products are still one of the cheapest and most successful ways to advertise and you will find that a smart holiday corporate gift for ten dollars or even less will remain in the recipients possession for months to come. It is times like these that your client really does appreciate a kind gesture in response to all of the business they have sent your way. Just Because ~ Why Giving Gifts to Your Valued Customers Is Important

Many companies believe that the most important place to hand out promotional products is at trade shows or within their company. While that is important and shouldn't be forgotten, it's also important to hand out gifts to valued customers that have been with your business for a long time.

Handing out gifts to your customers—be it for a special occasion or just because—shows that you are thinking about them constantly. It will mean even more if the gift does not come right after a meeting where you made a big deal or an upcoming meeting where you're hoping to make one. The best idea would be to keep a calendar that has nothing but your client's birthdays on it and send them a card. You can also send them a promotional product with the card — throw in a keychain, nice pen, water bottle or magnet and you'll be remembered that much more. And don't feel limited to just birthdays. Send a travel mug to a client who has a caffeine addiction, a fleece blanket to a client with children who play outdoor sports, a book to a client headed off on vacation—they list goes on and on. You could even send a flashlight to someone who just moved into a new home with a note that reads, "just in case."

Sending promotional product items to valued customers does two things. First, it creates a more personal relationship with you and your client which will often lead to building a stronger business relationship. Customers want companies to care about them and their well-being and promotional products as gifts will help do that. It also will give customers the opportunity to brag about your company and all the nice things they do for them. All in all, giving away promotional products as gifts will help boost business.
