Xerox Keeps Color Costs in Check with Newest Multifunction Printers

Posted 09:59 PM August 16, 2011

The innovative technology inside Xerox Corporation's first high-speed solid ink multifunction printers (MFPs) gave thousands of businesses around the world a hassle-free, low-cost way to print in color every day. Three new MFPs built on the award-winning ColorQube® platform save customers money with faster print speeds and simple-to-use features that make work easier.

Companies can cut color print costs in half with the Hybrid Color Pricing Plans available on the Xerox ColorQube 9300 Series – paying only for the amount of color on a given page. This is an important differentiation when using just a little bit of color, such as a company logo on letterhead.

"The Xerox ColorQube 9200 Series broke new ground in office color printing by turning the cost equation on its head. It gave companies an affordable way to use color every day – something they have requested for years," said Robert Palmer, director, InfoTrends Digital Peripherals Consulting Service. "The new Xerox ColorQube MFPs deliver the cost savings businesses have come to expect from solid ink technology."

The cartridge-free MFPs print and copy at speeds up to 55 pages per minute (ppm) in color, 60 ppm in black and white, and scan as fast as 60 impressions per minute in color.

Other benefits of the ColorQube 9300 Series include:

  • Color that gets noticed – Solid ink produces consistent color prints, regardless of media type, with intuitive features like Color by Words, a color-editing tool that allows for accurate and vibrant colors from the first print.
  • Walk-up convenience – Employees can easily print from and scan to a memory stick or thumb drive via the USB port located on the side of the MFP.
  • Built-in security – Image overwrite electronically "shreds" data on the MFP's hard drive while 256-bit encryption protects information flowing through the device. Network authentication prohibits unauthorized access by validating user names and passwords.
  • Lower environmental impact – The ColorQube 9300 Series is ENERGY STAR® qualified and generates up to 90 percent less consumable and packaging waste than comparable laser devices. It includes only one replaceable component – a cleaning unit with an average life of 330,000 prints – that can be recycled through the Xerox Green World Alliance program.
Additional productivity options include simple mobile printing. On-the-go workers can print securely from any email-enabled smartphone, tablet or laptop without downloading an application, loading software or searching for online printer information.

Solid Ink Savings
Cleveland-based Medical Mutual of Ohio installed 140 Xerox ColorQube MFPs to save thousands of dollars annually on administrative expenses.

"With the Xerox ColorQube we are comfortable printing more in color. Combine the ease of use and environmental benefits, and switching to solid ink MFPs was a logical move. Plus, less hassle and more savings mean extra time and resources we can reallocate to our core business," said Andy Balazs, vice president, IT, Medical Mutual of Ohio.

Availability
The list price for the ColorQube 9300 Order taking begins immediately in North America and other regions of the world will soon follow.  Contact Replica Business Solutions in Billings, MT for more information.  You can call 406.839.9228 or visit www.rbsmontana.com .

Managed Print Services A Smart Investment Despite Challenging Economy

Posted 08:31 AM December 29, 2009

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Dec. 08, 2009  -- Deploying managed print services (MPS) is a strategic priority for companies looking to uncover new ways to save money, according to a survey undertaken in the U.S. and Europe by research and analysis company Quocirca and co-sponsored by Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX).

Nearly 70 percent of survey respondents say better management of their print infrastructure is a strategic imperative, with cost savings driving the MPS investment. Even during the economic recession, more than 90 percent say they will continue with plans to deploy MPS to reduce the cost of printing, sharing and updating documents.

"The survey findings support the fact that the economic downturn is actually raising the profile for the cost savings potential that comes with MPS," said Stephen Cronin, president, Xerox Global Services. "Now more than ever, companies are calling on Xerox as the MPS market leader to proactively manage print output and spur growth by giving back valuable employee time."

Specific survey findings support the cost-savings opportunity provided by MPS:

  • 41 percent of respondents say printing accounts for more than 10 percent of their IT budget; in the financial services sector this number rises to 65 percent.
  • Nearly half of respondents expect to gain savings of more than 30 percent through an MPS contract.
  • 60 percent of current MPS users are satisfied with the cost savings achieved since implementing MPS, with an additional 25 percent indicating that the cost savings exceeded expectations.

"MPS users stand to gain additional cost savings by extending MPS beyond the office print environment to include their in-house print center," said Louella Fernandes, principal analyst, Quocirca. "Seventy-five percent of our respondents manage the print center internally or use a separate print vendor; this means they would still benefit from a comprehensive MPS plan to keep printing cost effective across the entire enterprise, not just in the office."

Xerox recently became the first vendor to connect the office environment with the in-house or in plant production print center. Xerox Enterprise Print Services extends the MPS cost-savings opportunity by making print more efficient in the print center and in the home or virtual office.

The survey also indicates that companies want MPS to work for the print infrastructure and equipment they have invested in already. Eighty percent of respondents rated the capacity for a partner to manage devices from multiple vendors as either important or very important. Xerox currently monitors approximately 1.5 million devices from multiple vendors worldwide.

Xerox was positioned by Gartner, Inc., in the Leaders Quadrant in the "Magic Quadrant for Managed Print Services Worldwide" for 2008 and 2009 and named MPS market leader in Quocirca's 2009 European MPS report.

Overloaded With Information? Get Back to Business in 2009

Posted 10:44 PM December 04, 2008

Xerox scientists offer simple ways to save time and manage information overload

NORWALK, Conn., Dec. 02, 2008  -- Should I disconnect the cell phone? Boycott voice mail? Throw the PDA out the window? As a chaotic 2008 comes to a close and workers resolve to regain sanity in 2009, where do they go for answers to questions about how to cope with information overload?

For more than 30 years, Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) social scientists have been studying how workers communicate, organize and generally get things done. In fact, they pioneered the science of ethnography, where researchers track the habits of workers as they go about their day.

Inspired by their Future of Work study, here are nine tips to help you save time and manage information overload.

  1. Breathe. It may sound simple, but not enough people take the time to do it. So schedule breaks into your daily working routine. It helps productivity - even stepping away from your desk for a moment. Even a quick nap helps you regenerate and be more productive. Research supports this, we swear.

  2. Simplify Your Schedule. Try scheduling all of your meetings on specific days so you have more time on non-meeting days to process information coming in - it's much easier to focus when you don't have a meeting looming in 20 minutes.

  3. Back It Up. No information is worse than too much. Make sure you have a solution in place for regular back-up.

  4. De-clutter Your Desktop (both of them). File, pile or toss papers as soon as you receive them. Scan and save important documents to reduce desktop clutter instead of filing. On your computer, consider getting rid of folders altogether and using desktop search engines to find things when you need them.

  5. Touch it Once. Often we waste time dealing with the same piece of information again and again. Respond as soon as you receive it, put it in its file or delete it/shred it the first time you touch it.

  6. Forget the Free Stuff. It comes at a price (e-mail garbage and unsolicited offers). Choose quality over quantity. Manage your bills and accounts online and sign up for the do not call lists and the no junk mail lists.

  7. Use Your Tools. Make use of your phone for getting the right info at the right time. For instance, you don't have to waste time printing maps if you can access them from your phone. GPS phones have the smarts to give you the right information based on your actual location.

  8. RSS Reprieve. Sign up for an aggregator. It helps you see all your news in one place.

  9. Manage Mobile Madness. Use a mobile device with e-mail support to make hours way from your desk more productive. Keeping track of e-mail throughout the day can help you anticipate future work, and take care of mini-projects as they arise instead of waiting until later to sift through a huge pile of e-mail.

"Tackling information overload is important for most global businesses today, tomorrow and five years from now," said Jenny Perotti, ethnographer in the Xerox Innovation Group. "Our findings will help people around the world leverage the tools they have today and plan strategies and techniques that will enable effective collaboration and information management in the future."

The findings from the ethnography team are used to help Xerox customers understand their future workforce, and they also impact the design of Xerox products and services to make the future worker more efficient.

After launching the "sharing" era with the first xerographic copier 70 years ago, Xerox now helps customers navigate the flood of information. The company has kept pace with innovations that help clear the path between paper and digital content, cut through the clutter and make information relevant again. New Xerox Multifunction Printers Bring High-End Printing Options to Small and Medium-Sized Businesses

NORWALK, Conn., Sept. 22, 2008  -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today introduced two new desktop multifunction printers (MFPs) that offer high-end scanning and fax capabilities at an affordable price. The new Phaser™ 3300MFP multifunction printer and the WorkCentre™ 4260MFP multifunction printer, help trim the amount of time workers spend handling documents and managing information.

Priced at $599, the Phaser 3300MFP delivers printing, copying, scanning and color faxing capabilities. With print and copy speeds up to 30 pages per minute (ppm), it's faster and can handle more pages per month than other products in its class, including the comparably priced Hewlett-Packard LaserJet M2727nf MFP. High capacity toner cartridges and a toner-saving mode also help busy offices reduce running costs.

With the ability to scan in color and black-and-white directly to a USB thumb drive, e-mail or the network, documents can be easily shared or stored. The Phaser 3300MFP is also equipped with Xerox Scan to PC Desktop™ software, which allows users to send a document from the MFP straight to their PC desktop for viewing, editing and storing.

The multifunction printer can also tackle a range of everyday office print jobs including automatic two-sided printing. It has a 50-sheet multipurpose tray that can handle a wide variety of paper weights and sizes ranging from postcards to legal-size documents.

For offices looking for more muscle, the WorkCentre 4260 multifunction printer is packed with advanced features and starts at $2,999. The WorkCentre 4260 is Xerox's fastest desktop multifunction system with print and copy speeds up to 55 ppm - a rate that makes it nearly 20 percent faster than the HP LaserJet M4345 MFP.

"Small and mid-sized businesses demand office equipment that is reliable and helps get work done faster," said Rick Dastin, president, Xerox Office Group. "These new products bring some of the technology from our high-end multifunction printers to the lower end of our portfolio to help businesses of all sizes better manage documents."

The WorkCentre 4260 delivers powerful workflow tools at an affordable price. With ID Card Copy, workers save time when copying both sides of an ID or insurance card onto one side of a page. ID Card Copy is especially helpful in healthcare organizations when adding information to patient files. Fax Forward to E-mail saves time and paper by automatically routing incoming faxes to an e-mail address. The WorkCentre 4260 also comes with automatic two-sided printing and the Save Print feature lets users store frequently used documents and forms on the hard drive for fast printing anytime.

The WorkCentre 4260's multitasking capabilities allow multiple workers to print, copy, scan and fax at the same time. If one print job is held up because of a lack of resources, such as needing legal-sized paper, the Print Around feature makes sure other print jobs will continue without interruption, saving workers from unnecessary downtime. In addition, the WorkCentre 4260 comes with a seven-inch color graphical touch screen that is simple to use and not typically found on this class of product.

Other updates to the office portfolio
To help SMBs do more with their color documents, the WorkCentre 5225 black-and-white multifunction printer now includes a color scanning configuration. The WorkCentre 5225 prints up to 25 ppm and offers Xerox's Extensible Interface Platform™ (EIP), which allows independent software vendors and developers to create applications for the device and to customize the touch screen.

In addition, Xerox is upgrading the software on its WorkCentre 5600 black-and-white multifunction series to keep pace with today's ever-changing IT standards and protocols. With support for IPv6 and compatibility for Microsoft's Web Services on Devices (WSD), the WorkCentre 5600 series - with speeds ranging from 32 ppm to 87 ppm - becomes even more powerful for IT professionals.

Availability
The Phaser 3300MFP and the WorkCentre 4260 are ENERGY STAR® qualified and available immediately through Xerox sales, agent, Replica Business Solutions at 406- 839-9228 or online at www.rbsmontana.com. New Xerox Color MFP System and Print Server Power Office Publishing

Posted 10:02 PM June 23, 2008

NORWALK, Conn., May 27, 2008  -- It's an office reality: A co-worker sends a file loaded with images to the printer and the rest of the office stands in line waiting for this one print job. It's a frustrating drain on productivity. To take this frustration out of the workplace and keep office printing humming, Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) launched the WorkCentre™ 7346 multifunction printer.

It's the company's latest color MFP that speeds through a range of documents, from everyday business reports like Excel spreadsheets, to graphic-rich color presentations and brochures. The system features print speeds of up to 40 pages per minute (ppm) in color and 45 ppm in black and white, a fast 667MHz processor, 1.5 GB of memory, and a 40 GB hard drive.

While documents with complex images traditionally slow down print jobs, the new Electronics For Imaging (EFI) Fiery® print server for the WorkCentre 7300 series speeds up the process. As a result, the WorkCentre 7346 and print server combination are suited for offices that need to print a variety of files, such as marketing and publishing groups. In addition, the EFI Fiery print server provides easy-to-use color management controls for ensuring color accuracy.

"Offices of any size thrive on speed," said Russell Peacock, president of Xerox Office Group. "And at the same time, they demand quality, affordable technology. It's a tall order that the WorkCentre 7346 delivers. This system is designed to cut down the print queue so that employees can send a file to the printer, grab and go. No wait time means more work gets done."

The WorkCentre 7346 is also equipped with tools such as Auditron and Xerox Standard Accounting, which regulate and track color usage, giving users the ability to manage costs by choosing when, where and how much color they need.

Security
The security features of the WorkCentre 7346 protect sensitive data at all points of vulnerability, from the device, hard drive and network, to the document itself. An audit log tracks the date and user of every job the device processes. Users can also be sure that documents remain confidential with Secure Print, a feature that allows users to enter a pin at the device before printing begins.

The WorkCentre 7346 is enabled with Xerox's , a technology inside many Xerox MFPs. Based on Web standards, EIP allows independent software vendors and developers to easily create applications for multifunction systems that simplify document-based work processes, such as forms registration, and customize the touch screen for personalized workflows for individuals and workgroups.

Both the WorkCentre 7346 and the EFI Fiery print server are available immediately in Billings and surrounding areas through Replica Business Solutions -Xerox authorized sales agent/ dealer, and by calling 800-ASK-XEROX.

New Xerox Printers & MFP's: Low cost, Reliable Tech. for Small Biz

Posted 12:13 AM June 14, 2008

New Xerox Printers and Multifunction Products: Easy to Use Affordable, Reliable Technology for Small Businesses

NORWALK, Conn., May 20, 2008  -- With the launch of five printers and multifunction products, Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) makes it easier and more affordable for small and mid-sized businesses to get more work done on even the tightest of budgets.

The new offerings range from the $279 Xerox Phaser™ 3100MFP multifunction printer that prints, copies and scans, to the $1,999 Xerox Phaser 5550 laser printer that speeds printing at a rate of up to 50 pages per minute (ppm). For more features, the new Xerox Phaser 3635MFP multifunction printer, starting at $1,799, is a 35 ppm networked system that includes advanced security options like image overwriting, encryption and authentication tools.

"The goal in today's competitive business world is to do more while spending less" said Russell Peacock, president, Xerox Office Group. "That's a challenge, especially for small and mid-size businesses that need to invest in order to grow. Xerox's portfolio of technology gives these businesses an array of choices to fit the way they work without breaking the bank."

The new Phaser black-and-white printers and MFPs join the company's growing stable of products designed with the small and mid-sized business in mind and play critical roles in Xerox's overall SMB strategy. In addition to a broader product portfolio, Xerox is expanding its distribution network, making it easier for the SMB market to benefit from the cost and quality advantages of doing business with Xerox. The company's most notable channel expansion initiatives include the acquisition last year of Global Imaging Systems, Inc., in the U.S., and its planned acquisition of Veenman B.V., the largest office technology distributor in the Netherlands. In addition to these distributors, more than 7,000 sales agents and 40,000 technology resellers sell the Xerox brand around the world.

Reliable, Affordable
Built on the award-winning Phaser 5500 platform, the Phaser 5550 laser printer features automated tools for easy installation and service. The printer comes with PhaserSMART®, an online troubleshooting tool that helps diagnose and solve potential printing issues, preventing maintenance calls and increasing its reliability. Starting at $1,999, the Phaser 5550 produces tabloid-sized prints up to 50 ppm for both single and double-sided pages.

"The reliability of the Xerox team and Xerox products has played a significant role in our recovery efforts since Hurricane Katrina, helping our dispersed employees get the University up and running as quickly as possible," said Michael Britt, director of administrative service, Tulane University. "After moving our Phaser 5500 from inches of water in New Orleans following the hurricane to Houston - and back again - it still worked like new. In fact, the printer is still in use today with over 800,000 pages printed."

Xerox combined ease of use, reliability and low-cost, to build the Phaser 3100MFP, which starts at $279. The system, Xerox's lowest-priced MFP, makes office work easy with print speeds up to 21 ppm and features like scan to e-mail, a full keyboard for the fax directory, and Optical Character Recognition software that converts scanned documents into text-searchable files.

For the individual user or small workgroup, the Xerox Phaser 3250 laser printer, starting at $279, is small in size yet rich with features including automatic two-sided printing and the ability to print up to 30 pages per minute.

Rounding out the product launch, the company also announced the Xerox Phaser 3600 laser printer. Starting at $549, the Phaser 3600 prints up to 40 ppm and includes a standard one-year warranty with the option to extend up to three years - an offering not typically found on this class of product. Meeting the needs of workgroups, the Phaser 3600 includes advanced security features and Xerox's CentreWare® Internet Service technology, making the printer easy to use and maintain.

Recycling
The Phaser 3635MFP, Phaser 3100MFP, Phaser 5550, Phaser 3250 and Phaser 3600 are part of Xerox's Green World Alliance. The Xerox Green World Alliance is a worldwide initiative to encourage customers large and small to recycle or dispose of supplies in a manner that minimizes impact to the environment. This partnership with customers has resulted in more than 2.7 million cartridges and toner containers being returned in 2006. Xerox processed 1.3 million pounds of post-consumer waste toner for reuse, and the plastic bottles customers used to return waste toner to Xerox-nearly 100,000 of them-have been recycled.

Availability
The Phaser 3635MFP, Phaser 5550, Phaser 3250 and Phaser 3600 are available immediately worldwide through Xerox direct sales, agents, resellers, dealers, concessionaires, by calling 1-866-480-3119, or going online at http://www.xerox.com/direct. The Phaser 3100MFP will be available worldwide in early June.

Five Paper Tips from Xerox: Use Less, Use Wisely

Posted 09:13 PM April 24, 2008

NORWALK, Conn., March 31, 2008  -- Memos, reports, invoices, forms, presentations and instructions are the trademark of a busy office - and signal the vital role paper plays in it every day. Yet Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) studies show that office workers throw away 45 percent of documents within 24 hours of printing them.

How can you stay productive while using resources wisely?

Paper is a renewable resource. If you think before you print and choose the paper that's right for the job, you can reduce the environmental footprint of your office. As one of the world's largest suppliers of papers for office printers and copiers, Xerox is sharing five simple tips for smart paper use.

  • Use both sides of the paper. It's called "duplex printing" and it is the single best way to reduce paper use. So choose copiers, digital printers and multifunction devices that can print on both sides of the paper. Add duplex as your "default" mode.

  • Go digital. Save on postage by sending electronic files and let your recipient decide whether to print them. Replace paper files with electronic ones using the scan-to-file option on multifunction devices.

  • Be selective: Print what you need when you need it. For example, print only the portion of the report you need, not every page. Preview your print to avoid printing pages with boilerplate. Print on demand. Don't stockpile forms, letterhead, or instructions that will go out of date.

  • Reach for the right paper. A number of options promote sound environmental practices. For instance, Xerox High Yield Business Paper™ is produced using half the number of trees of conventional paper. Print on papers certified through global organizations, such as the Forest Stewardship Council or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, both of which have strict international standards for sustainable forestry. Or use paper with recycled content.

  • Recycle. Collect used paper so the fiber can be used again. Recycling the fiber saves trees, reduces energy and water use, requires fewer chemicals, and keeps paper out of landfills.

"It may be a surprise that Xerox is concerned about excessive paper use. After all, we're in the business of putting marks on pages," said Wim Appelo, president, Xerox Strategic Services, which manages Xerox's paper business as well as its company-wide environmental programs.

"But, the hallmark of our business has always been operating in an environmentally responsible way. That means holding our suppliers to tough standards on how they make paper, improving forest management and protecting endangered forests. As important, through Xerox innovation we help our customers minimize their impact on the environment while meeting their business needs."

Xerox applies stringent requirements on all its paper suppliers and is working with The Nature Conservancy to identify and promote best practices that will enable environmental scientists, forest managers and paper suppliers to work cooperatively toward sustainable forest management. Long an evangelist for greener operations, Xerox believes that environmental sustainability isn't a cost of doing business, but a way of doing business that benefits shareholders, customers, employees and the world in which we work and live.

Every Day is Earth Day at Xerox

Posted 08:14 PM April 21, 2008

Every Day is Earth Day at Xerox
NORWALK, Conn., April 21, 2008  -- With green practices that began even before the first Earth Day was observed in 1970, every day is Earth Day at Xerox. The company turned up the volume this week with special projects that encourage employees around the world to renew their commitment to the environment through their efforts at home and at work.

From planting trees and spreading the word about all that Xerox is doing to protect our planet to collecting and recycling waste, each Xerox location is celebrating Earth Day in its individual way.

Xerox is also presenting its15th annual Earth Awards, a program that honors employee teams that have not only improved the performance of the company's operations but also helped to protect the environment through innovative actions and programs.

Here's a quick look at some of the Earth Day activities at various Xerox locations:

  • In the U.K., Xerox folks are kicking off a 100-day carbon clean up campaign. They are also hosting Earth Day events at 12 sites complete with a Web-based poster competition to build environmental awareness.
  • Cincinnati Xerox employees are no strangers to sustainability. That's where thousands of Xerox systems are returned for recycling or remanufacturing when their leases expire. The facility has educational displays that highlight operations to recover plastic, cardboard and electronics. In addition, employees are working with Nike to collect old athletic shoes to recycle them into sports surfaces.
  • Wilsonville, Ore. is scheduling earth-friendly events that impact employees' homes and the community as well as the manufacturing site. On the schedule is a park cleanup, a native plant display, information from a local power supplier, and collection of household hazardous waste and employee electronic waste. They will also host a brown bag lunch to discuss what else can be done for the environment. The Wilsonville facility is home to Xerox's proprietary solid ink printing technology, which generates 90 percent less waste than comparable laser printing.
  • In Canada, Xerox employees are planting trees in the City of Mississauga, a Toronto suburb, to offset greenhouse gas emissions, and they are participating in a clean up day with the city. They are magnifying their efforts by developing education programs to promote sustainability awareness with Xerox customers, including educational materials for the sales force as well as a special edition of the quarterly newsletter.
  • Rochester, N.Y. has the largest concentration of Xerox employees, and they too will be busy with roadside clean ups and tree planting in two locations, and an Earth Day "fair" for employees.
Xerox's commitment to sustainability dates back decades and is woven into nearly all aspects of how it designs its products, selects its suppliers, and operates its business. Some of the "green" programs and products being produced by Xerox include:
  • Xerox's solid ink technology used in printers and multifunction devices use cartridge-free ink sticks that generate 90 percent less waste than laser devices.
  • Intuitive "power down" capabilities in Xerox's solid ink printers learn the printing patterns of an office and automatically shift into a low-power mode when it knows the printer will be in low use, like during the lunch hour.
  • Emulsion Aggregation toner is a major breakthrough in laser-based printing - requiring less toner to be placed on a printed page while using 25 percent less energy to print and manufacture than previous types of toner.
  • High Yield Business Paper™ uses 90 percent of a tree versus standard white office paper that typically uses 45 percent of a tree.
  • Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certifications branded paper products are manufactured using raw materials harvested from certified sources that can be tracked from harvest through distribution.
  • Research and development projects underway inside of Xerox labs include the development of erasable paper that can be reused multiple times.
In its worldwide operations, Xerox has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by more than 18 percent since 2002, and it has set a goal of a 25 percent reduction by 2012 based on the 2002 baseline. In addition, the company has diverted more than 2 billion pounds of waste from landfills through its long-standing green initiatives.

Whether it is to develop an entire portfolio of sustainable paper, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its service fleet or to be one of the first to incorporate ENERGY STAR® specification into its products, Xerox partners with customers, suppliers and stakeholders to advance sustainable business practices and make every day Earth Day.
