To take advantage of this all you have to is visit our online Cafepress store and make a purchase, book your next massage, bring in your receipt or proof of purchase to get this free 30 min. massage offer.

Here is a sample list of just some of our advance techniques.

Trigger Point Therapy- Local trigger point ischemic compression is very effective, although often quite uncomfortable. Characteristic referred pain will be elicited, signaling that the correct muscle is being treated. Often this procedure is all that is needed.

PNF- PNF is used to supplement daily stretching and is employed to make quick gains in range of motion to help athletes improve performance. Good range of motion makes better biomechanics, reduces fatigue and helps prevent overuse injuries. PNF is practiced by physical therapists, massage therapists, athletic trainers and others.

Resistive Stretching- is a form of stretching in which a muscle simultaneously contracts and elongates. The technique is a part of the Meridian Flexibility System founded by Bob Cooley. Assisted resistance flexibility and strength training is performed with two or more people. The stretcher resists the movement of the assister(s) while the assister(s) flex/extend, adduct/abduct, and/or inward/outward rotate the target muscle group. Maximal gains in flexibility are produced by using twice the force to stretch a muscle as is required to strengthen it.

Deep Tissue Massage- Deep tissue massage is directed toward the deeper layers of muscle and fascia, as compared to Swedish or relaxation massage which are more superficial. There are many types of deep tissue massage. What styles that we choose help break up adhesion and fascia restrictions, decrease pain and increase range of motion and ease of movement in our daily routine.

Myofascial Release - Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The theory of Myofascial Release requires an understanding of the fascia system (or connective tissue).

Here is a bonus for you, if you live in the San Jose or San Francisco Bay Area, come in and experience the difference that you can feel. And right now, we have a free 30 minute massage offer, just visit our Cafepress online store buy a t-shirt, book your 60, 75 or 90 minute massage and pay for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. with your proof of purchase.

Massage Envy, Friend or Foe?

Posted 07:30 PM June 03, 2008

Massage Envy was founded by John Leonesio in Scottsdale in 2002, Massage Envy is a membership-based and single-visit provider of massages. Currently Massage Envy operates 420 franchises in 36 states, with another 350 under-development in just 6 years. Pretty impressive numbers for any business, let alone a massage business.

Friend or Foe?

I first heard about 2006 Massage Envy right about the time I started working on my own idea’s of building a massage business franchise. As a massage therapist of nearly 9 years, I knew right away, what their success meant for me as a business owner. Being a male massage therapist I was constantly being questioned, why did I want to do massage? What kind of massage was I going to be doing? So I knew from this experience how difficult it would be to get the approval from the city regulators and licensing officials to open up a massage business. Massage Envy is literally helping to change all that, for future massage businesses.

Massage Envy’s success is my success. If you have plans on opening up a massage company of your own, like I do. Massage Envy is literally deregulating (or I should say getting pre-approvals) from all the cities and counties licensing officials. Using their resources for cutting through all the red tape, that surrounds getting a massage license in any city. Anyone coming in behind them,  with a massage business plan of their own has an easier time now. Massage Envy's presence in the cities that they occupy, is literally pre-approving other massage establishments that want to take up space around or near other Massage Envy businesses.

Why Friend?

  • Massage Envy is using their time and money resources for getting local cities and regulators approval for their license to open Massage Envy businesses in their cities.

  • Massage Envy is logging in hundreds if not thousands of hours in various court rooms, fighting for city permits and licensing approvals, when they are being challenged. Massage Envy is paying good money in attorney fees to fight these challenges, less you have to pay, when you want to open your own massage business, in the same cities.

  • Massage Envy is doing all the "test marketing" for different regions and demographics across the United States that they occupy, all of which you won’t have to. With a little market research on Massage Envy locations and return on their ROI, you will have a complete market analysis.

  • With Massage Envy's aggressive expansion, they are bringing more individuals to massage, who may not have gotten one before because of price and negative perceptions.

  • Massage Envy is a "case study" for me, from which you can look to and learn from.

With all this said, Massage Envy is Friend. But, for all that they are friend for, they are also my foe. Not only to me but to most of the professional massage therapists and bodyworkers out there. I say most because some massage therapists need to keep their Massage Envy jobs...inside industry joke...lol.

  • They pay less than industry standards, the average massage therapist makes about $15 - $18 per 50 minute massage. Exploiting massage therapists straight out of school and subjecting them to less than admirable working conditions (5 minute change times) and "just ok pay".

  • Massage Envy’s aggressive expansion plans and "walmart pricing model" will decrease the value of getting a massage, not increase it. Massage customers will continue to expect to pay less not more for their massages and future competition will only see more drops in pricing structure. Unless you change that business model.

  • Massage Envy’s failure to recognize, their unique opportunity. Massage Envy can introduce many first time massage goers and individuals who seek “spa massages” to a better quality massage that is more therapeutic in nature. I believe that this could raise our level of professionalism within the massage industry to higher standard, not less.

  • No in-house training program for massage therapists to increase their knowledge base. And if they do offer it, its on "Spa culture" not technique.

So I ask you, “Is Massage Envy Friend or Foe?”

One day when you decide to open up a massage business for yourself, be sure that it serves your clients, and the therapists. If you treat therapist like this, you will continue to have a high "turn-over" rate, and never build rapport, loyalty or consistency.

Maybe with their latest buy out by Veria, things will get better at Massage Envy. But I don’t think so, Veria only bought them out so that would have a platform to market their own health related products to a already captured-ready-made audience.
