There are numerous mistakes you can make when first setting up a website. All too often, they’re easy to overlook, but any one of these can quickly and immediately lose you both customers and traffic.
Counters
Don’t use a visitor counter. They can backfire easily, especially if they display low numbers and a visitor decides they do not trust your product due to a low audience. If you absolutely must have a counter on your website, use an invisible one that visitors cannot see. Better yet, sign up for a good statistics program. Google offers basic services for free.
Construction Signs
Don’t put up construction signs on your website. If you are not ready to share your website with the world, leave it offline. It should be live as soon as you activate it with some form of content that will entice visitors. Anything less will only create permanent non-visitors.
Keep it Simple
Don’t over utilize snazzy looking features. They are distracting and largely a waste of space. You want your visitors to see your products and your message, not your cool widgets. Not only that, but the heavier technology can slow down sites on older computers and there’s nothing less enticing to a visitor than a slow, unresponsive website.
Update Dates and Times
Don’t leave any old, outdated copyright notices or dates on your page. The first thing anyone looks for on a website is relevance and the best way to display relevance is through constant updates. If it appears you do not take the time to update and work on your site, then no one will care to look at it.
Keep it Short
Don’t get too wordy. People have short attention spans, especially online where they’re likely surfing during work or on a short break. You want to offer short, single topic sentences and paragraphs that they can digest quickly. If you do it right, they’ll keep reading. Use bullet points and headlines as most people merely scan online copy and you want them to at least see the most important parts of you page.
Proper Grammar
The most obnoxious thing anyone can do when writing a website is not take the time to write it properly. Poor grammar, misspelled words and passive verbs are a killer. Using active sentences not only makes you appear more confident in what you’re saying, it spices up your copy. And nothing kills copy quicker than poor grammar.
Sell Your Product
Don’t merely show information. Throw out the best details you can muster about your product. What does it do well? Why do your visitors need you or your product more than anyone else’s. Be proactive and sell yourself. Finish with a call to action that gives your readers a clear directive to contact you, purchase something, or return at a later time.
Keep At It
These are all great tips that will help to create a productive, successful website, but you have to keep with it as well. Don’t give up or stop as soon as you website is built and no one visits. Be active and attract visitors with fresh content, new articles, and active link building.

A budget is everything to a business; it is the epitome of professionalism as well as the lifeblood of good planning. It is absolutely impossible to do anything well in business without a budget to go by and indeed in the cases of some more established business models it is actually illegal not to have regular budgets that show exactly what is going on with the business in a financial sense. When it comes right down to it, planning your budget is one of the most crucial things you could ever hope to do for your business. A properly planned budget that is then executed well is going to be a great help to any business and of course a poorly planned budget is going to be the downfall of most businesses; usually before they've even had a chance to succeed. So, what exactly makes a good budget? Well, reducing it down to first principles any budget that has inflows to cover the outflows is a good start. More so than that however, the inflows need to be at least equivalent if not in excess of the outflows and the outflows combined have to create something that is competitive to the business itself. A good rule of thumb when it comes to making budgets lies along the lines of the cost efficiency principle. The cost efficiency principle basically states that you should not be afraid to spend X dollars if you are going to get Y dollars in return with Y being at least equal to X if not greater. Now, this is an interesting concept but some would argue it is not one that is particularly tenable in the earlier stages of a business because a business needs to spend a lot to get itself off the ground. This is a good point, but one that is superficial at best. While each item X may not result in a gross income of Y, you can always add items together in order to receive that result. If you have X + Y + Z resulting in A + B + C and both of those equations are equal to D, then there is really nothing to worry about because overall you are adhering to the cost efficiency principle in your budget. This is exactly what good planning for a budget is. You identify what needs to be done from a financial sense and then you make sure to carry it out in a way that allows you to maintain the cost efficiency principle. Don't ever spend money in a business unless you expect to get money (or something as valuable as money) out of it; otherwise, what is the point of going into business in the first place? Finding online programs that induct you to the fast track for seemingly unlimited earning capacities is simple, but increasing your online residual income opportunities takes a bit of doing and just a smidgen of know-how. Imagine the possibilities associated with not only growing your steady cash flow potential, but also cultivating a vibrant residual system that will pay you long after your direct involvement in a deal or transaction has been paid!
From the onset it is imperative to realize that any website which promises you to make money while you sleep, get rich quick overnight, and become a millionaire doing this line of work is lying to you and most likely is trying to do little more than get you to pay $19.99 or some such amount in an effort to sell you a secret that allegedly will make all of your dreams come true. Think about it! If there truly was such a secret, the person in possession of it would not be hawking it on a badly designed website using stock graphics.
The only way to increase your online residual income opportunities is through dedication and hard work and just a bit of business savvy you can get yourself without paying one red cent. Begin by building a website that is user-friendly as well as search engine friendly. You may then use it to sell the product you may have decided to sell. Conversely, you also have the option of signing up with a multi level marketing (MLM) company which will not only build you a website already populated with all the links you need and commerce tools you will require, but the company will even hold the product for you in their warehouse pending the sales!
Maximize your income potential and begin your road to residual income by recruiting other individuals to do the same thing. Invest your time in training them, helping them to build an online presence, and also coach and encourage them as needed. You will be rewarded with a small percentage of their overall profits, which will continue to trickle in long after your training and grooming of this individual will cease. What is more, if you sign up with a MLM company that has a generous remuneration plan, you will find that the people they recruit will also pay a small percentage of their profits to you, and thus if you are a successful recruiter who finds, grooms, and then turns out other successful recruiters, you are in the fast lane to making some serious residual income!
Self promotion and the utmost care in choosing a product and company are key components to increasing your online residual income opportunities, as faddish products, companies with bad reputations or a less than generous reward and remuneration structure will rarely attract others either as customers or potential recruits. In the same vein, ensure that the market is not overly saturated with the product you are selling for otherwise even the best developed plan is doomed to fail.

With the explosion of Red Light Cameras people are starting to ask the question, "are the cameras all they are made out to be."
The answer to that question depends on who you ask. The private companies who install and operate the cameras say that they improve safety at the intersections where they are installed. The cities authorizing the cameras claim that they act as additional (robot) policeman and this promotes safer driving.
Opponents of the cameras say that a private contractor should not profit from law enforcement, Ala "Robocop." Also most studies show that the cameras do not improve safety and in some instances accidents have increased at the intersections where they are placed.
Safety experts say that increasing the length of the yellow light is much more effective at increasing the safety of a given intersection. However some Cities have ignored this advice and actually shortened the length of yellow lights to increase the number of tickets issued.
"The main focus of the cameras seems to be increasing revenue for the city and the camera operator. Engineering recommendations that would truly improve safety are being ignored in favor of the money raised from the motoring public," said Tom Miller of www.zapredlightcameras.com
While the cameras may increase revenue for cities and profits for the operators, it appears that they do little to keep the drivers safer.

Maybe you think a mugging will never happen to you. Chances are the people you read about today in the newspaper who were mugged didn't think it would happen to them either.
Muggings are usually crimes of opportunity. The mugger looks for likely victims based on how easy a target they will be and how much money they expect to get from the victim.
What can you do to reduce your chance of being mugged?
Here are some tips:
Walk with one or more people. Muggers are much less likely to take on more than one person. This goes back to how easy they view the target. The addition of even one additional person introduces an unknown into the equation. The mugger will have to divide his attention and therefore may be vulnerable to a counterattack.
Stay in well lit and well traveled areas. If you are not familiar with the area ask someone to tell you the areas you should stay away from. If you are staying in a hotel, ask the concierge to show you on the map a safe route for walking.
Don't walk like a victim. Most convicted felons say that they can pick out a victim by their posture and the way they walk. Don't stoop over while you walk. Square your shoulders and walk briskly. Keep your head up and be alert to your surroundings. Imagine you just won an Olympic Gold Metal and you are walking up to the dais to accept your medal.
Take a cell phone with you and have it handy. If you suspect something is going to happen predial 911 on the phone and keep your finger on the send button.
If someone is approaching you from your front, make sure you look around to see if his friends are coming up behind you. Since most muggers are cowards, they may feel they need overwhelming odds to complete their crime.
Always be aware of exit lanes that you can take to get away from the situation. Head for the center of activity. Do not run into the woods unless it is the only option available.
Make noise, make lots of noise. The mugger doesn't want attention and noise may cause him to give up on you and pick a better target.
If it is legal in the area you might consider carrying a stun gun, pepper spray or a TASER in your pocket or purse. These items may not prevent someone from accosting you but they will likely increase your chances of coming out of the situation unhurt.
The most effective of the three is the TASER. It allows you to stop the mugger before he gets his hands on you. You can use the TASER up to 15 feet away and neutralize the threat long enough to get away.
Pepper Spray has to be used at a much shorter distance. The spray is effective at changing the muggers mind from hurting you. It will inflame his skin and close his eyes so he will have difficulty even seeing you. You spray it directly into the face and eyes of the attacker and don't stop spraying until he stops what he is doing.
A stun gun requires you to touch the mugger with it. Similar to the TASER it uses electrical pulses that can effectively stun the person so again you will have time to get away. On both the TASER and Stun Gun the current will not pass through the mugger into you even if you are touching them will using them.
Don't fight over the money in your wallet or purse. Money can be replaced but your life can't. It's better to give them your money and live than to leave your family without a mother or father.
As a last ditch tactic fall down and (noisily) fake a heart attack. Most felons are experts on the law and they will realize that if someone dies while they are mugging them they could be charged with murder.
My martial arts teacher once told me a story about a time he was in a seedy bar and it looked like the patrons were going to rob him. He discreetly went into the bathroom and put his money in his sock. When he came out of the bathroom he tried to borrow money from everyone in the bar. Since everyone knew he had no money he was able to walk out of the bar without a scratch.

My wife calls me paranoid.
The doors to our house are locked day and night. At night the entire outside of the house is illuminated. We have a security system and a surveillance camera.
When I'm in the car, the doors are always locked. There is a can of pepper spray and a stun gun close by. I stay out of bad areas at night and never pick up hitch hikers.
Why do I do all these things?
I've seen the effects of crime on people close to me and in my job.
If your house has ever been broken into you know the feeling of being violated. The thought of some seedy stranger going through your drawers and personal items is really creepy.
If you or someone close to you has ever been robbed or assaulted you know the feeling of helplessness and vulnerability.
And you start to ask yourself, how could this happen?
In the real world it does happen to countless people. You can see the accounts on TV and in the newspaper. Rape, robbery, burglary and assault are just a few of the headlines we see on a daily basis.
That's why I started my self-defense business.
