You should see how excited our dancers are. Some are anxious because this is the first time they'll dance on a BIG stage; others, the cool, older ones, are treating the Recital as "old hat " - you know teens....they could be bursting with enthusiasm and anticipation but they'd rather keep it to themselves. Or text a message about it to the girl standing next to them. (Oh, no student cell use allowed in the studio - Focus, ladies, focus!)

Oh, don't think that that attitude will diminish their performance - absolutely not! They are just so accustomed to dancing in public that it comes as second nature to them. When the lights go up and the music begins, it is just a glorious treat to watch them perform! If you've never attended one of our recitals, let me give you a wholehearted invitation. Our "Four Seasons" presentation will be Saturday afternoon, May 17th, and the curtain goes up at 4:30 PM. Our students range in age from 3 to 17 years old and you will see ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, pointe, acro/contortion, and hip-hop routines. Fun! Fun! Fun!

If you are considering dance classes for your child or children, this month is the time to do the scouting around. You should go to every recital this month - all of the Cleveland studios have their recitals in May; most are held on the Lee University campus - some at the Conn Center and some at the smaller Dixon Center.

After attending the recitals, you might want to make an appointment to talk with the studio owners or managers and request to see a DVD of the specific age, style, & level where your child would probably be placed. The are many levels of dance and many types of dance studios. In Cleveland, there is a studio whose primary focus seems to be theatre and drama and many of whose teachers come from out-of-town; another studio has a ballet focus; the third studio is based out of Chattanooga (they have fabulous cloggers) - and many of their activities require a lot of time on the road.

All of the studios have their good features...you just need to find the :fit" for you and your child.

CDPAC is a well-rounded studio which offers excellent classes for all ages, all levels, and most styles of dance. If you're interested in classes for your little one who has never taken dance, we recommend our Creative Pre-Dance classes. Your child would learn ballet, tap, and acrobatics in one class - this works well becuase very young children have very short attention spans. This keeps their interest high.

In addition to personal enrichment classes, we offer a wonderful program for foundation building for the dancers who want to be professional performers. We give several opportunities throughout the year to study with nationally known dancers and choreographers in the fields of ballet, lyrical, hip-hop, tap, and acro. Most of these children compete on small teams, as solos, and as duos. Our dancers shine at these competitions and often come home with the highest awards possible.
