My business was started late in my life. As a single mother of 3 I had to work 2 job with one being in "Corporate America", in order to get my children what was needed and assist them through college. I only have one left in college now and he will soon graduate. This was my opportunity to do what I wanted to do and to enjoy working. No commuting and no more unfair management! What more could I ask for!
I really appreciate the listing in your blog. I seem to always need advise on my business, especially in the financial area. I look forward to connecting with other women business owners.

Great list! I have yet to see any business from Merchant Circle but I will keep it going of course, you never know.
I have been in business since June. I have had some success with Craigslist. I scan the ads, and I send out at least one ad per week. That usually generates a few calls. Word of mouth is the other way I've been getting jobs, keeping in touch with former co-employees, friends and family, letting them know when I'm available, and just chit chatting, being genuinely interested in their lives.
I also volunteer my services from time to time, or do trades. I figure even if I am not earning cash money, I am OUT THERE being seen, giving my cards out and generating positive momentum for more work!

Thank you for starting an avenue for woman owned buisnesses. It is very much appreciated to have someone to network with. Woman today have it hard still. If you put a woman or a man in the same place,and watch how people respond, you will find that they respond more so to the man then they do the woman. They both can be doing the same job or owning the same buisness but when individuals are talking to them their eye contact goes directly to the man and not the woman even though the man may not be as knowledgeable in the subject as the woman.
My husband and I have a doll buisness. I do most of the work on the dolls due to I am really the artist behind the dolls. When we are at shows and potental buyers have questions, they look at my husband when asking the question expecting him to answer. I can be standing right next to him. Of course he directs them to me for the answers.

Over 90% of our products are invented by moms or made by moms. We like the idea of offering you products invented by moms who didn’t find exactly what their baby or child needed, like a stylish shopping cart cover or a toddler-sized nap mat, so they created it. I believe that organization is the key to keep your business going in the forward motion. We as women have so many responsibilities and we have to learn how to balance our business and home life. This is not easy, but with a little planning it can be done successfully. Keep one calendar with everyone's activities on it including your business. That way you can block out time for your family, a date with your husband, those sporting events, and other appointments. Be sure to schedule yourself an appointment at least one to three times a week to read a book, take a hot bath, shop, do some personal growth activities, go to the gym, or have lunch with a friend. Don't let other things change your appointment for yourself which is so easy to do. When your life is balanced, then everything comes together!

Hi all,
I started my own business 20 years ago. I received my contractors license and started working for the phone company, I came to realize the phone company was charging people an arm and a leg for just basic installation and repairs. I've since expanded to do phone systems, voice mail, computer cabling and cable TV. Telephone Jacks is an alternative to paying outrageous prices with the phone company. Hello, I started this business very young and now at the age of 26, I have my own escrow company. We have been opened since June of 2006. I offer a great price along with great costumer service. I don't charge junk fees like other escrow companies that could save the clients over $300.00 or more. I offer great competative escrow prices on sales and a flat fee of $445.00 for refinances. I'm glad you made this for us woman that have worked hard to be above.

I appreciate being included in your listing of women-owned businesses, but my custom powder coating shop isn't an "Auto Repair" business.

I generally cater to hot rodders and Harley guys -- I haven't had a single female customer -- but will coat anything metal. If you could place my business in a listing such as "Auto Customization," or even under "Powder Coating," I'd appreciate it.

I'm still trying to figure out how to network with all of you but don't seem to be getting very far here or on Merchant Circle itself. I need to devote a lot of time to finding my way around!!! :-)
