The Pampered Spirit

Twice a month on average I receive phone calls from people who want to "Surprise" someone with a massage or spa treatment.  It amazes me as to the extent some people will go to pull it off.   I have had the pleasure of arriving at homes of wives, parents, husbands, girlfriends, grandparents, daughters and couples and saying; "Hi my name is Bridget I am from The Pampered Spirit Mobile Massage&Spa; and I am here to give you a massage……The look on some of their faces is priceless! Here are a few memorable stories….

Girlfriend's Birthday Surprise: I recently scheduled a massage&facial for a young man surprising his girlfriend for her 25th birthday.  We talked on the phone several time before the actual date.  Timing is everything I told him.  If she gets home at 2:30 and you want to leave at 6pm for dinner we have to plan this right. "So here's the plan, I'll arrive at 2:50, set up the table and begin the massage at 3pm.  At 4:05 the facialist will come in and set up.  Your girlfriend won't even have to get off the table!  In the downtime it takes to "change the guard" so to speak I will treat her to a hand and foot treatment with heated mitts and booties." He loved the idea and we confirmed the details twice.  Needless to say when I arrived the girlfriend was shocked and surprised and said she had never heard of this in home spa before.  She washed up and came downstairs with a big smile on her face and said; "This is cool, I'm ready!" Kudos to boyfriends that do stuff like this. 

Mom&Dad Day Surprise: A thoughtful daughter booked couples massage for her parents one Sunday to celebrate Mothers and Fathers Day combined.  She told her parents to dress comfortable and be home by 3pm.  We arrived and knocked on the door.  The Father answered and seemed less than thrilled with our presence.  He called his wife to the door.  I was afraid they were going to ask us to leave!  His wife convinced him it would be all right.  Their experience was a positive one. Now we go to their home every few months to give the couple regular massages.  Try everything once and twice if you like it!

Grandparents 50 Anniversary Surprise:  This is one of my favorite stories.  The Granddaughter and Daughter along with the rest of the "kids" in the family wanted to do something very special for their Grandparents  50 Wedding Anniversary.  They booked a suite at a nice hotel and sent them on a treasure hunt throughout the hotel to find clues to various presents.  One of the clues led them back to their room where The Pampered Spirit staff was waiting to give them Manicure's, Pedicure's and Massages.  Yes, Grandpa got a Pedicure!  The family also included a bottle of their favorite champagne, flowers and chocolates to complete the package.  After all this treasure hunting was complete the couple was greeted by friends and family downstairs for the Party!

Wife's Sparkle Party: A police officer called and wanted help planning a baby shower for his wife.  It was their second child so he said it's not really a baby shower but a Sprinkle.  I said no it's a SPArkle!  The name stuck so we went with it.  We set up stations for chair massages, hand and foot treatments.  ALL the ladies were surprised and his wife especially!  This dad knew how to spoil his wife but her friends too!

Be thoughtful, plan a surprise for someone you love today.

Girls have been getting together for parties since before puberty. First it was the sleep-over.  7 or 8 girls crammed into your bedroom or sanctuary,  giggling and laughing till all hours of the night.  Throw in some hair brushing , nail painting and  phoning  the boys and you've got your self a party! A variation on the "girl party" lasted through high school.

Then came the "college girl party".   At this party we would try on each and trade each others clothes, wax legs and.... paint the nails and twist our hair into some new funky style we might or might not wear at the next party.  Throw in some malt beer and you've got yourself another successful party.

After college came the demonstration party.  This was a party scene I was at a disadvantage in my early 20's.  At this girl get-together party we would sit around in a circle while a talking head showed us the latest in kitchen gadgets or easy to make dinners for our family.  Since I didn't have a family to cook for I generally passed on these parties.  It seemed to lack the essential element for a girl party.  Close friends.

Gainfully employed I started going to other girl parties with my friends from work.  The knock off party or jewelry party.  Now this seemed more like college.  Substitute out the malt beer for wine and clothes changing for accessories and it was a fun evening.  The only problem was the next morning I would have buyers remorse looking at my purchases wondering when I would ever wear that boa' I thought so awesome the night before.  And I did not think I could fool anyone with my new Prada bag. 

I stayed away from the party scene for a while feeling unsatisfied and disappointed.  Then I started The Pampered Spirit Mobile Massage and Spa.  I thought it would be fun to offer a party solution for women looking to reconnect, celebrate and relax with their friends old school style.  Re-creating if you will the feel of girlhood and sleep overs.

It worked!  Women love spa parties.  Everybody is in a good mood.  Stress melts away with spa treatments.  Most women can't wait to jump on the table and forgot about the rest of life for a few precious moments. Nobody feels oblige to purchase your product since it is predetermined ahead of time. Spa partiers may or may not be spa goes themselves but I can not tell you how many women comment I just do not have the time to go or I feel guilty doing something for myself.  Under the guise of "spa party" they are safe.  Safe to experience a spa treatment and safe to do something for themselves because it's so and so's party or maybe their not paying as much as the traditional spa.

Then there are the spa junkies. These girls live to spa anywhere anytime.  Some are young Moms looking to escape not to far away.  Others looking for any excuse to get a massage.  Some even plan  a surprise spa party!  Where the Guest of Honor is totally shocked by her friends generosity and effort to turn her house into a day spa.

The bachelorette party is a favorite as well.  What a great alternative to the traditional, raunchy and sometimes distasteful  scene.  What better way to celebrate the transition from girl hood, women to wife with a visit back in time to the original place where we learned it all...in our bedroom with our friends.

It's just all about a good time!

Sometimes my business is so darn interesting I cant' stand it.  One minute I'm at a mansion on the beach down the Jersey Shore at a spa party next I'm in Camden backstage at a rock concert performing massages !

The Masters of Metal Tour including; Heven & Hell. MotorHead, Testament, Judas Priest.  Old School rockers, extreamly polite and gracious and a little tired I might add.  We set up a massage table and massage chair to meet the needs of the staff and musicians.  Then we hung around and waited for our first customer.  Now I hate to admit it but I could not tell you the names of the band members or who was with who.  You could just tell, "Oh he's on stage"  you know.

Gina and I double teamed and  massaged about 15 people from lead singers to tour bus drivers.  Everyone was appreciative and looked as if they would fall asleep on the spot.  Four handed massages?  Why not people we were working it.

I was amazed at the coordination of the production company, arena and band managers working together to put on a great show.  So many people so many personalities.  Each job equally important.  Lighting not set right.  There could be a fire.  Everything seemed to be going smoothly.

I enjoyed my experience very much. I have Stage Hands of Boston Mass to thank for calling The Pampered Spirit and contracting us for the job.  I look forward to more shows.!
