GO GREEN - EXTRA INVITATIONS BY THE 5's NOT 25's

How many event planners, brides to be, or just mom's wish they could order 30 invitations rather than 50? Many of our brides who need 130 invitations are forced to order 150.  How do you feel about that?

With the industry standard for "extra invitations needed" (at time of order entry) currently at 25, what do you think of letting the manufacturers know your thoughts about changing this standard?

We need your input in order to make a difference. Please comment, forwad this blog, or send to those interested or to whom it will impact (everyone who writes on stationery or needs an invitation!).

Many of our customers, brides mostly, come to us needing 5 or 10 more invitations at the time of their order (over and above their guest list).  So what are they to do?  How am I to advise them?  My advise: "if you need extras you must order an additional 25."  That makes me cringe.   I do my utmost to advise our customers on their guest list counts...such as 1 invitation per address, NOt per guest.  The setting of a new standard could lead to some big savings for the consumer as well as affect the Post Consumer Product chain.

How would you feel if you had the option of ordering 5 or 10 more rather than 25?  Extra envelopes, I can see as being usable later, but what do you do with 20 extra gorgeous invitations? Scrap them?  I have a hard enough time tossing beautiful (out of date) stationery and invitations in the recycle bin.

This new standard could possibly start  a chain reaction in the Stationery Industry!  I am confident that the manufacturers, who bundle their products in 25's can start to bundle them in 100's so the printers are more able to unbundle (and reshelve) if necessary. All it takes is a little effort on a few members on the chain.

This blog has been a long time coming....as I thought of this about 1 year ago (2007). With all the talk about GOING GREEN today this blog is timely!  I am hoping that this blog reaches those with clout to start a new industry trend. I wonder which manufacturer will lead the pack?  I look forward to hearing everyone's comments!

Fun blog Mariette! I'm not even a bride-- 15 years of wedded bliss!-- and I learned a lot. Bravo!

I think this is a great idea! I have extra invitations and I only had something to do with one of them. It is hard to throw out anything that you had for your wedding day especially the beautiful invitations.

With an eighteen year old daughter, this will be on our radar at some point (hopefully not too soon lol).

I hope the industry is listening to this bit of advice. Going green is always a good idea. Many emails I receive have a little tag at the bottom that says, "consider the environment before printing".....now if we could just get the Manufacturers to comply that would be awesome!
