Last year when I began Virtual Accounting Haven, my goal was to provide top-notch bookeeping or accounting services using the latest internet technolgy. Two very affordable solutions are Quickbooks Online and Quickbooks Remote Access. Unfortunately trial and error has taught me that both have serious drawbacks. Quickbooks Online cannot be used by internet merchants that need to import .iff (Intuit Import Format) files from websites or any business that carries inventory. Quickbooks Remote Access runs with a lot of hesitation. Delays prohibit a truly productive work session.
Another solution is to use a web hosting service. These services offer a lot of versitility and secure file sharing and storage. However up until now such a service has been out of reach for Virtual Accounting Haven because the pricing is scaled to favor larger accounting or bookkeeping firms. Happily I have recently discovered SwizZnet ( http://www.swizz-it.com/ ) . SwizZnet does not require a large financial commitment. Their services are offered on a month-to-month basis and can be ended at anytime. Please visit Virtual Accounting Haven at http://www.virtualaccountinghaven.com to read more about our services.

If you have been looking into getting a website designed for your business you may have already learned just how expensive it can be. As a new business owner I found what is out there either too pricey or too limited. Plus I felt really strongly about being able to update or change the information on my site whenever I wanted. So I took some inexpensive on-line classes to learn how to design a website myself. Visit my website at http://www.virtualaccountinghaven.com to see the results. During this learning process I discovered how much I like expressing my creative side through the design of these web pages. I would love to do more. If you like my style and have a relatively simple website project in mind that could use my touch why not contact me about it? I may be able to save you some money, time and headaches!

One of the first rules to assure success when starting a new business is to work at something you are passionate about. This seems pretty simple. Make your business about something you love. Actors love acting. Painters adore painting. Scientists are enamored by science, and so on. So when I decided to start Virtual Accounting Haven I had to ask myself: Is it possible to be passionate about accounting? Many would scoff at the idea. Even those who might say yes are slow to admit it. After all there is the stigma of being considered a nerd, a geek, or just really boring. But I do think it is possible. Is it an obsession with numbers? No, not as far as I am concerned. Is it money worship? No, money is fun but I’m not in love with it. For me accounting is about reconciling facts and discovering truths. It’s about muddling through the paperwork and getting to the heart of the matter. It’s about solving problems. In this way accountants are very much like detectives. Detectives decipher puzzling evidence, make observations, and find clues. If things fall into place the case or the crime is ultimately solved. Accountants take jumbled bits of information and numbers and turn them into balanced accounts and financial statements that make sense. We analyze. We “dig in”. It’s easy to imagine someone being passionate about being a detective. After all, they have been glorified in books, movies and television. And I have to admit that it would be hard to translate what accountants do into entertainment for the masses. But for those of us who have made this our life’s work, who experience sheer joy and satisfaction when accounts are finally balanced and everything is clear, it is a passion.
