The Barn Raising is a Unique shop dealing in Antiques, Gifts and Collectibles specializing in Antique Primitives, Antique Dolls and Vintage Childrens Collectibles and Salesmans Samples. The front of the shop features antiques, unique gifts and collectibles along with selected pieces by Paul Jones, hand crafted 18th century furniture reproductions. The back of the shop is a treasure trove of antiques, vintage collectibles and antique dolls and accesories, all displayed and set up in room settings. We specialize in Antique Dolls, bisque, composition and tiny "Frozen Charlottes and Frozen Charlie" dolls, primitive furniture, salesman sample/child sized antique furniture pieces and other vintage children's items. The shop is set up with child size table settings, hutches, doll beds, wash stands, etc. with Antique Dolls, tiny vintage linens and tea sets all displayed on authenic child size antiques. How did we get the name Barn Raising?? Our first business, THE BARN RAISING, began in 1980 in an old barn we moved to our property. The business is now located in a 1895 Dry Goods Store in the quaint village of Rutledge Georgia. Let me introduce myself, I am Pam Jones an antiques dealer and collector, quilter and eBay seller. If you would like to view my current auctions running on eBay with pictures click here: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZpjgal2000 Also look for the link to my new buyers guide on eBay for RARE "Frozen Charlotte and Frozen Charlie" antique dolls click here: http://reviews.ebay.com/Frozen-Charlotte-And-Charlie-Antique-Doll-Buyers-Guide_W0QQugidZ10000000000915405 My husband Paul owns and operates the 100 year old Rutledge Hardware store right next door to the Barn Raising. He builds 18th Century Furniture Reproductions in the back warehouse area when he isn't waiting on customers or visiting with them around the old pot belly stove. His pieces include Heart Pine Huntboards, Linen Press/Entertainment Centers, Corner Cupboards, Trunks, Tables, Beds, etc all done in Milk Paint finishes. They have been featured in the magazine Country Living among others. His Barn Raising creations can be found for sale and display in stores up and down the East coast from Georgia to Connecticut. Folks visiting the hardware store enjoy looking through the old double doors into the back warehouse area and watching Paul as he brings his hand-crafted 18th century furniture pieces to life. We came by the name Barn Raising naturally since our creations (Paul's furniture and my quilts) were originally "raised" in a barn. We were well established as the Barn Raising when we made our move to town so we kept the name. There are many handmade items like we used to carry in the old barn. They include handmade candles, pottery and quilts. Hope to see you here! Breaking NEWS! Barn Raising Antiques Blog 11 Alive News visits Rutledge's 30th annual "Christmas in the Country" http://www.11alive.com/rss/rss_story.aspx?storyid=137799 Enjoy the story and video online of 11 Alive anchor Valerie Hoff's Ways to Save segment on the 30th annual Rutledge "Christmas in the Country" event Nov. 20th - 22nd 2009. Many thanks to Val and company for this!! Our Barn Raising Antique shop and 100+ year old Rutledge Hardware next door were featured in an article in the New York Times escape section on Antiquing in the Old South on Friday November 28th. The article was featured online and in the Times newspaper. The article can still be seen online at this link http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/11/28/travel/escapes/28american.html?partner=permalink&exprod=permalink along with three pages of photos of our shop, page 4, 5 $ 6 of the 16 page slide show at http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/11/28/travel/escapes/1128-AMER_6.html Here is an excerpt from the NY TIMES article by Nick Kaye: Once you’ve sufficiently traversed Atlanta, head to the countryside. Drive east over rolling hills for about 50 miles on Interstate 20 and take Exit 101 to Route 278/12. Out there, the urban scenery gives way to wide cotton fields and farmland studded with hay bales. In tiny Rutledge, whose main intersection is an old oil drum with four stop signs sticking out of its top, head for a shop called the Barn Raising, where Pam Jones sells items like a late 19th-century German doll by Armand Marseille ($225). Also on display are 18th-century furniture reproductions made by her husband, Paul, whom you’ll find next door at an old hardware store. It has been nearly 25 years since the Joneses first took up business here in a row of historic storefronts with facades dotted by flourishes of ironwork shaped like stars and Indian heads. In 1997, the couple jumped at the chance to buy the hardware store, which had been in continuous operation since the late 1800s, and promptly found themselves amid “layers of history,” Ms. Jones said. One item they discovered while digging through the store was a Cole Boll Weevil Killer — an old piece of farm equipment that used mop-like instruments to cover cotton fields with a mixture of molasses and arsenic. Mrs. Jones thought to call the Smithsonian, and eventually the relic was hauled off to Washington.

Barn Raising - a Treasure Chest

5

The Barn Raising antiques and gift shop has been in business in Rutledge for over 25 years. Filled to the brim with antiques (specializing in primitives), gifts and collectibles, it offers a little something for everyone. Its goods are housed in an old dry goods store building that was built in the late 1800s. The historic building has many interesting features such as its original green and white octagon Greek Key patterned tile floor and Winder Foundry Iron work on its facade. Stop-by or call them to purchase your next TREASURE!

Wonderful Family Business - Excellent Customer Service

5

Paul and Pam have not only been loyal customers to Ashlen's wholesale business but have been wonderful friends as well. In return, our family has supported Barn Raising for our home decorating needs. Paul has custom built two sets of kitchen cabinets for us. His attention to detail and quality wood selections truly do make a statement. Pam, his lovely wife is very knowledgeable in antiques and can assist anyone in finding that much desired "treasure." From one family business to another, Ashlen supports The Barn Raising and is grateful for the relationship we have with Pam and Paul.
