They say the fondest memories are made when gathered around the table. And here, you get it all. The wonderful food, great service, warm and gracious atmosphere and the memories of a meal not soon forgotten! Most of my birthday dinners have been here as well as other special events in our lives. Many years ago...I worked here as my first job and that only makes coming back now even sweeter. You have to try the Roasted Red Pepper soup with lump crab meat. And my favorite main course is either the Baden Baden which is a scrumptious chicken dish or the Seafood New Orleans which happens to be the only food my husband has ever dreamed about! Now, go make a few memories of your own. And if you run into Bruni or Edgard, please tell them hello and warmest wishes from me. My maiden name was Tammy Albert while I worked there. Oh, and don't forget to try the Bavarian Nut Ball for dessert and their Pumpkin Cheesecake is something to savor!!! I am hoping to see Grasshopper Pie this summer. Enjoy... My husband and I always go for dinner on our anniversary. Also my husband's company has had it Christmas party there. Everyone enjoyed themselves and loved the food. We had been going to this restaurant since 1979 and would recommend it to anyone. The food has always been excellent and the service is great. By Judy Carter on December 31, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Very authentic German Restaurant.. Make sure to bring your appetite.. Moderate to high price in menu but trust me you will need a "to go box" the service is very friendly and the atmosphere is very traditional as is the food.. We go a few times a year and every time is just a pleasure.. Great for any occasion.. Best to make reservations to get in at a good time or day.. If a holiday is coming up best also booking a couple of weeks in advance or go for lunch which is less busy.
You can't go wrong with the Schnitzel or the slow roasted beef.. Until it comes to dessert and you can always try their creme brulee or black forrest cake By Anna on June 12, 2008 at 12:54 PM
My family really loves this place! We've also had many meals in Europe and Bavarian Chef really stacks up!! We always make reservations, sometimes same day. Surely you can show up, but why wait? Unless you want to have your first drink at a small bar area. There is take away menus at the door, but I don't know of an online menu. Also, there is both german food and really great steaks and such. WIth family style sides, you never go away hungry and the meal is always good the next day - so order away and take some home. I always ALWAYS get the Soup with Red Peppers and Lump Crab Meat! WOW! By German Enjoyer on March 01, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Without a doubt Virginia's best German restuarant and among the best anywhere, and we've dined in Austria and Germany. The sauces and draft beers are to die for. Wunderbar! By Frank MacHovec on April 05, 2007 at 05:46 AM
This is one of the best restuarants in Virginia! The food is beyond delicious and the service is top notch. We have enjoyed meals at the Bavarian Chef for over ten years, and have NEVER been disappointed. It's a 160 mile round trip for us, and well worth every mile...and we're going tomorrow. My family has gone here many times over the years to celebrate special occasions. The Bavarian Chef has a cozy, inviting atmosphere. And the food is wonderful quality and delicious. You can even get a German-speaking waiter if you like! By Donna Canady on March 29, 2007 at 07:02 AM
I have eaten here many times when I lived in VA. I now live in GA and am bringing my husband to the restrant for our 9th anniversary.
He was stationed in Germany and ate many meals with a local family. I have assured him this one will be just as good. I do rate you 5 stars. By Rebecca Bostwick on March 16, 2007 at 07:10 PM
