The Dancing Arts Center, founded and directed by Karyn Edison, has maintained a tradition of excellence in the Metrowest area since 1979. DAC is a caring school with experienced, educated, professional faculty who nurture each student's desire and enrich each student's love of dancing through creative inspiration, discovery, expression, discipline and performance. Instruction is offered in creative movement, classical ballet, modern dance, and jazz. Additional classes in character dance, variation, and others round out our program The Dancing Arts Ensemble, a student touring dance company, established in 1982 under the direction of Karyn Edison, is an unincorporated not-for-profit-association. The Ensemble consists of 30+ dancers and four resident choreographers striving to further the exploration and appreciation of worldly issues through the presentation of dance as a disciplined art form and means of personal expression in concert, workshop, and lecture-demonstration formats. The Ensemble is dedicated to strengthening and expanding the eastern Massachusetts arts community. To date, the Ensemble tour has reached over 15,000 people of all ages throughout eastern Massachusetts. Its work has been presented in the Boston Children Dance Festival, Charles River Dance Festival, Little Night Dancing, among others. Dancing Arts Ensemble Tour offers audiences of all ages a unique opportunity to view high quality, live dance performances with a universal message. Using the classical disciplines of ballet, modern, and jazz dance, plus a musical score representing a wide range of composers, lively costumes, and sets, our repertoire show audiences how dance takes the fundamental elements of shape, energy, weight, direction, time, and space and transforms them into expressions of human thought and emotions. The audience will gain a greater understanding of dance as a vital art form as well as an athletic endeavor. The Dancing Arts Academy, day school for grades 4 - 12, organized in 2002 for parents and instructors to collaborate on each child's academic and artistic interests and abilities for a cohesive bridging of fine arts with an ongoing examination, understanding and perspective of humanities and sciences. Raising an artistic child when academic, social and artistic facets of life are intersecting requires a special network of family and school to help these facets merge rather than collide.The Academy's special environment of daily intimate guidance is calibrated to inspire a student's greatest potential and provide consistent rigor in a comprehensive program of studies, making a far more powerful and personally intense experience. In this vibrant multi disciplinary environment, personalities will blossom into a stalwart individual poised to move through life with self direction and motivation.
