My silk drapery panel was accidentally washed. It is shrunken, wrinkled and bodiless. Can anything be done to restore it?

Hi Cynthia,
Depending on the degree of shrinkage, it may be possible to restore this silk drapery panel. This type of shrinkage typically occurs in the length of the panel. It may be possible to have this panel stretched by a skilled dry cleaner, either on an aparatus called an Adjust-A-Drape or, in the case of minor shrinkage, by hand with the assistance of steam. If there is a hem at the bottom of the panel, this can also be let down by a tailor and then pressed flat in order to restore additional length to the panel . A skilled dry cleaner should also be able to press out the wrinkles.
As far as the fabric losing body is concerned, this is most likely due to the sizing being removed from the fabric during the washing process. Again, a skilled dry cleaner may be able to re-apply sizing during the pressing process, although the body may not quite return to its previous state.
If you would like to tell me which city/state you live in I can try to recommend a capable dry cleaner in your area, who can assist you with this issue. Or, if you prefer, you can ship this panel to us and we can try to restore it for you.
