Hi Tania, Clean out the earlobe every day for at least a week. You may want to switch the earrings out to a higher quality of gold or Sterling Silver. ( Reply posted on February 10, 2012 )

my ear are sensitive and i have to wear earrings that have real gold in them, would 10kt gold earrings be ok?

Yes, usually 10Kt. earrings would be ok. Try first, then move up to 14Kt. gold if necessary. Clean before inserting (sometimes a drop of NeoSporin on the post helps). ~Janet ( Reply posted on February 08, 2012 )

Ear pierced lately. I removed the stud after 4 weeks, which was a little too early. I put on post earrings for a week, (took off when I sleep) it's slightly bleeding. Put back stud again longer?

Yes, too early! Clean studs & ears, keep them in for 2-3 more weeks. Keep up the cleaning/twisting routine til they mature perfectly. ~Janet ( Reply posted on February 08, 2012 )

I got my ears pierced again on Tuesday because mine closed up when I was five years old. I was wondering if you can sleep with the post earrings after the ear piercing earrings are off.

Reply to Comment January 28, 2012 by Yasmine
Merchant Reply:

Yes! You should sleep with earrings in almost all the time for about a year. Clean the new earrings every month and make sure the backs are on, and not too loose or too tight. : ) ( Reply posted on January 31, 2012 )

i just got my ears double pierced and i have to take them out to play sports. what should i do to keep them from closing?

Hi~ I don't usually suggest that people go to Claire's, but they have these "piercing protectors." They are clear plastic, and they should be safe enough to use during sports - they keep the holes open. (Ask the coach.) Or, use clear fishing line to make a small hoop thru the holes (tie a knot). My daughter had her ears pierce mid Sept. We removed earrings last night but can not get any studs in. Any suggestions?

Reply to Comment December 28, 2011 by Kim
Merchant Reply:

Clean her earlobes and the earrings well. Put a small ice pack in front & in back of the lobes. Put a drop of NeoSporin or Vaseline on the tip of the earring post & push through! A little bleeding is ok. Do the cleaning routine for another 4-6 weeks. Some people take longer to mature the holes. Or, she is allergic to the metal, or she is getting dirt & germs in her holes. Let me know, ~Janet ( Reply posted on December 29, 2011 )

silver, all types of gold = irritated sore ears within 4hrs. Only earrings that are ok are the ones originally pierced with. Was fine when younger. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes, systems change! Several people have come back to my store to purchase more styles of the Surgical Steel piercing studs. We only charge $10 to $15 per pair. Otherwise, Platinum is an option - but it will cost you! Let me know, ~Janet ( Reply posted on December 29, 2011 )

What causes blood blisters & what can I do to prevent them in the future?

Reply to Comment December 18, 2011 by Loree Miecznikowski
Merchant Reply:

Ask you doctor about this.. some people are sensitive to the metal of the earrings. You may have to switch to higher gold, surgical steel or Platinum. Keep up the cleaning routine for a longer time also. Have you followed all the instructions? ~Janet ( Reply posted on December 29, 2011 )

I just got my second hole on my ears and I am having surgery in 2 weeks on my hip. Is it okay to leave the new earrings out of my ears during the short surgery?

Reply to Comment December 01, 2011 by Mackenzie Thompson

Oh no! Get some plastic ear piercing protectors (we have some). Use the plastic piece as a retainer; it'll be inconspicuous and it will keep your piercing open. ( Reply posted on December 02, 2011 )

i have a 14 gauge earring how long till i can take it out?

Reply to Comment December 01, 2011 by cody

Do you want to switch to a thinner or thicker gauge? I've read that it's 3 weeks. Google "14 gauge earrings" for more discussions. ( Reply posted on December 02, 2011 )

I had my ears pierced october 2nd 2011 and they still hurt sometimes but they are not red and there is no puss. what should i do

Sometimes "maturing" the hole takes longer. And sometimes there is a buildup of the cream in the earring backings that is irritating. Take them out for a few minutes & clean them well. Keep up the cleaning/twisting routine. Or change to a higher quality earring with room for air to get around the holes. Let me know,~Janet ( Reply posted on December 02, 2011 )

hello, my daughter got her ears pierced in Sept. of this year, She has now developed a bump like abscess on the back of one ear. What do I do? Do I take the earing out?

Reply to Comment November 21, 2011 by Rachel

A doctor can see if it's solid or fluid. They can cut into it & clean it out... If it's solid & small, it may go away in time. Does it hurt? You may not have to remove the earring. ~Janet ( Reply posted on November 28, 2011 )

hi i got my second holes in my ears like 4 weeks ago and both of my ear leak and my left ear is a bit tender. is this normal and what should i do to help it heal ???

Reply to Comment November 08, 2011 by tapaita tulikihakau
Merchant Reply:

No, it's not normal. You have either an allergy to the metal or an infection. Ask your doctor; if it's an infection, use antibacterial creme & get it into the holes. If it's an allergic reaction, get 18 kt. gold or something different from what you have in now. Make sure there is room for air to get in - not too tight. ~Janet ( Reply posted on November 28, 2011 )

My daugher had her ears pierced 10 weeks ago. We removed the piercing studs yesterday afternoon and she had trouble putting in new earrings. Is it too late to have someone reinsert?

Reply to Comment October 31, 2011 by Samantha

No. Put a drop of NeoSporin on the tip of the post before inserting. That will help. ( Reply posted on November 02, 2011 )

hi , i got my ears pierced 4 months ago, the left ear bleeds and leaks a little sometimes, i was told that ithers a blister at the back, i still have my starter earings in..dont know what to do

Hi! Are you still cleaning them with alcohol? If not, you could have bacteria build up. Take them out, clean them well, & quickly put them back in. Or, put in 14 kt. or 18 kt. gold studs or light wires. NeoSporin helps too, but ask the doctor what else will help the blister. Let me know, ~Janet ( Reply posted on October 29, 2011 )

my holes stayed open but it hurt a little putting them back in but they r fine now!

My daughters one years old now but when she was about 6 months old she got her ears pierced her earrings fell off is it on leave them off for a day?

Reply to Comment October 24, 2011 by Mariah johnson
Merchant Reply:

Probably it's ok for a day. Kids "heal" so fast, so better keep earrings in all the time or holes can close up! Remember to clean them about once a month (good advice for all of us!) ( Reply posted on October 26, 2011 )

I forgot to switch out my daughter's training earrings. Is it possible to leave in training earrings too long?

Reply to Comment October 23, 2011 by Katrina
Merchant Reply:

No, some people leave them in for a year. But they can get stuck if you ignore them. Usually earrings collect gunky residue, so you really should remove and clean off earrings with alcohol at least once a month! (And earlobes.) Let me know what happens. ~Janet ( Reply posted on October 26, 2011 )

OK, thanks! I'm not able to get these so hopefully it will be okay to take them out for 20-30 minutes...Thanks!!!!

We are not allowed to wear tape, when I said re-pierced Imeant I did pierce my ears again, but in different spots. Would your answer still be the same? How fast will my ear holes close up?

Reply to Comment October 20, 2011 by abigail (:
Merchant Reply:

Yes, my answer is still the same. Often newly pierced ears close up in an hour or less! Claire's has a plastic earrring stud that is almost invisible; ask your coach if that's ok. It's like a retainer. Also, ask if you can use clear nylon fishing line that you can get at the sporting goods store... push a piece of it thru & tie a strong knot. ( Reply posted on October 21, 2011 )

I also have never tried putting on neosporin, should I ?

Reply to Comment October 19, 2011 by Nicole

My experience is that alcohol and NeoSporin really works!! (Once a day). Keep your fingers clean and don't touch your ears too much. It should be fine, otherwise, switch to 14 kt. or 18 kt. gold. ( Reply posted on October 26, 2011 )

I have never slept on that side. Its surgical steel and i clean it with the Claires solution they gave me.

hi,I got my ears re-pierced on Sunday (10/16) because they closed up. I have 2 XC meets this week (one 2moro and 1 Saturday). should I take my earrings out or cover them w/ skin colored tape? Thanks-A

Reply to Comment October 17, 2011 by abigail

OMG, don't take them out! They will close up again. Your body is a very fast "healer", so just cover them up if possible. Keep the cleaning / twisting routine up everyday with super clean fingers... don't let them close up again. ~Janet ( Reply posted on October 19, 2011 )
