A Living Nightmare

Kidspeace used to be my home. I can recall waking up to the sounds of children screaming. For seven years i was subjected to scare tactic rehabilitation. It was only about breaking the childrens will. If we pushed them so to speak i.e a wrong look, talking back or not following a direction, they (the staff) would physically restrain us with no regaurd for our safety. Broken bones rug burns cuts and bruises were the norm. To any parent considering this place please procede with caution. Inside those finely built walls is a place of spirit crushing, mental, physical, and emotional, abuse. Many of the children there come from that enviroment. Which is why they harbor anger, pain, resentment. What they need is kindess, love , and understanding. None of which kidspeace provides. To the parents, law gaurdians, and courts they can be quite charming all in the pursuit of $$. But as soon as the papers are signed the child pays the price. I sometimes wonder what happened to others. I made it!

Not at all what we had expected

Maybe folks do not write reviews since they have to identify themselves and fear repercussion. We found clinical staff to be disinterested in input from us as parents and uncooperative in collaborating with us. Our son was in a distinct minority in that most of his so-called peers were inner-city kids from DCF and the court system. We were not informed of this at the time of the referral and would not have sent him there had we known. Our impression was that KidsPeace was not accustomed to dealing with parents and had little interest in doing so. Our son says residential staff was the only good part of being there. As parents we found them fairly unavailable and unresponsive in our attempts to contact our son by phone. The intake counselor was an exception in that she was kind and supportive. School was diagnostic but not educational. Nearly a month post-discharge, Medical Records has not yet sent requested material to the next placement.
