Contrary to belief, seeding is best done in early fall. Weed seeds become dormant at this time of year allowing the grass seed only, to germinate. If you seed in the spring, you cannot apply a crabgrass control product without harming the seed or stopping the grass seed from germinating. This allows crabgrass to set in and it has to be treated at a later date, so not to hurt the new grass. Sodding however can be done virtually any time during the growing season. Although I recommend not during the very hot months of summer. Even though it is more than twice the cost of seed I recommend sodding over seeding in the spring of the year.
