I agree. Had the same thing happen. Get a WRITTEN contract.

Rule #1: GET IT IN WRITING!!! When we were looking for a place to get married, my wife and I kayaked past Loloma Lodge and it looked beautiful. We later drove up and asked the owner for the total cost to rent the lodge for the weekend of our wedding. She gave us a price that was within our budget, and told us to send a check for half the amount as a deposit and write the dates on the memo line of the check. We were surprised that she didn't offer us a contract, but we trusted her... UNTIL several months passed and she started adding in a few hundred here and a few hundred there until the price had just about doubled. When she refused to honor the original price she had given us and we asked for our deposit back, she refused to return it until we contacted the BBB. Even then she kept $300. BOTTOM LINE: If you decided to do a wedding there, GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!

My boyfriend and I just spent the weekend at Loloma in one of the riverside cabins. It was amazingly relaxing and so peaceful. I loved the cabin as we were only 10 feet from the river with no buildings on the other side; just trees and birds (we saw a big blue heron swimming just over the river). The cabin floor is heated which was delightful and it was great to just lay on the floor and stretch and read while the river flowed by. The owner, Kathy, is friendly and accommodating. She had built a fire and heated our cabin for us when we arrived late in the evening on Friday. Sweet. There is a nice hotspring just 5 minutes away that we visited and the popular ski resort, Hoodoo is a 45 minute drive up into the Cascades. What a gorgeous drive and great skiing in the sun! We love Loloma and will be back!
