Hello, I'm a 27 yr old, who lost a lot of brow hair during pregnancy. I haven't been tweezing or removing any hair, but cannot seem to get regrowth. Are there any affordable products that can help?
Sarah, July 06, 2009
Hi, Sarah! :)
To answer your question...yes, there are products that have been proven to help. Affordable? Depends on what affordable means to you?
Prostaglandins in glaucoma drugs were causing patients receiving treatments to grow longer lashes. There are many products marketed now containing prostaglandins. I don't know which ones work better than others; I've never used them.
This link may help you understand the process & decide if this may be right for you: :)

I am a 32 yr old mom of 3. I began tweezing my upper lip when I was about 14, waxing at 17 and shaving at 22. What can I do to stop this vicious cycle of shaving??
Karrie, June 26, 2009
My suggestion is to stop shaving.
Shaving stimulates the hair follicle and causes hair to grow in more coarsly. I would recommend tweezing or waxing.
The reason for this is a little long winded, but basically the hair will be removed from the root (papilla). Hair grows in 3 different cycles: anagen, catagen, & telogen. In the anagen phase the hair is attached at the root & receiving blood supply..growing. The hair then detaches from the root and rests in the hair follicle, no longer growing. This is the catagen phase. Lastly, the hair begins to fall out during the telogen phase. When you wax, you remove all the hair from the surface....yet, a few days later you will have hair growing in. THIS IS NORMAL. It is hair that hasn't surfaced yet either because it is in the anagen or catagen phase. Let this hair grow in and you will wax it on your next appointment. AFTER 4-6 months of waxing at regular intervals (3-4 weeks for facial, usually), most of the hair will start to grow in at the same time. When you wax hair growing in at the same time, it stays gone for the same amount of time (usually 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 weeks).
I've addressed this in some degree on my website in the following post:
Excess facial hair: what's normal, what's not?
Many women experience excess facial hair to some degree. In my experience I'd say roughly 80% or so are dealing with this behind closed doors. You are not alone! My role as your aesthetician, is to provide hair removal! Please come in for a consultation to find out the best option for you.
Excess androgen (testosterone & dhea) is the hormone responsible for hirsutism. Please consult your doctor to evaluate the cause of your excess androgen.
