Tamales Like Mom use to make

5

On my recent visit to my former hometown of San Antonio I discovered Tellez tamales. Without a doubt they are the best tamales I have ever had. I froze 5 doz and brought them back to the SF Bay area where I live now and where I will continue to enjoy them. I only wish they had mail order so i coulld continue to enjoy them.Thank you so much!

Tellez Tamales & Barbacoa

King of one trade

3

I have to admit that when it comes to tamales in Texas, my hometown of San Antonio is the place to find the best. And Tellez Tamales has become a king among king tamalerias. Places like Delicious and Ruben's have garnered my devotion for decades, but that has recently changed. Tellez has won me over with their back-to-basics approach to my much-loved tamal. The tamales are slender (as they should be) and they are packed with meat and filling. Plus, their flavor is perfectly blanced with spices. They are not the flavorless, maza-packed monstrosities that are sold by lesser places in the north side of town. Their salsa is not bad, either (but they do charge for it vs. the traditional inclusion). With that said, I will point out that Tellez should stick to making tamales. They also offer other food (cafeteria-style) at their tamaleria, but I would avoid it. I wish I had. Their cheese enchiladas are an embarrassment to the city that birthed them and better tacos can be found at any one o
