The pies were great. There was only one problem. What was supposed to be a lemon meringue pie, ended up being a sour cream raisin. I wanted lemon meringue. :( By Kathy on August 03, 2010 at 06:19 AM
My friend Maggie makes the best Rhubarb Custard and Strawberry Rhubarb pies ever and I just have to get some when I visit Whalan. Only problem is they are so yummy that they are often sold out before I get in to get mine! What a letdown! This also happens to bikers who pass by heading east saying they will stop on their way back, only to get back too late. By Carole J Johnson on July 28, 2010 at 01:42 PM
This pie shop has the best pies ever! When first entering the pie shop, you are reminded of ice cream shops from the past. After meeting the friendly owner and employees, there is a scrumptious assortment of pie staring at you. Should I have a cream pie or a warmed fruit pie w/a yummy crust and a scoop of ice cream. And with one pie serving 6 people, you are surely able to make a meal out of this. There is homemade soup and sandwiches available if you are interested in a lunch. The porch in back lets you watch other bikers traveling on the trail and in the spring watch the hummingbirds at the feeders. Definately worth the drive. The view is especially spectacular in the fall with the colors of the leaves. Make the trip, you'll be glad you did! By Chris on May 19, 2009 at 06:57 PM
We were first introduced to the Aroma Pie Shop 11 years ago, a don't miss stop for any biker on the Root River Trail. Every time I'm in the area, it requires a stop. Last summer I was with a friend and picked up a rhubarb custard pie to bring to my parents. I ,of course, had to try a piece. My friend thought it rude of me to bring them a pie and immediately consume part of it. To me, it seemed only reasonable. It was fantastic. My two petite parents, who don't eat much, said it was gone the next day. By Ron Wolfe on March 09, 2009 at 07:28 PM
The pie is the best I've had. Problem is deciding on just one piece - should it be the succulent blueberry or the smooth and tasty bannana cream pie - or maybe. . . . .
Every choice seems to be a culinary delight! By Rachel on February 17, 2009 at 12:16 PM
We made a pie shop detour on our way back to Ohio. The pies looked so good it was hard to choose. I loved the rhubarb custard pie and my husband still talks about the best pecan pie he has ever had. It was certainly worth the side trip!! By mary ellen on February 14, 2009 at 12:15 PM
When we were there, the blackberry pie we had was steaming hot from the oven. The ice cream melted over it and it was scrumptious. The girls working the counter were so nice and fun to talk to. Like the other reveiwer said, sitting on the porch was pleasant. We saw at least a dozen hummingbirds at the feeders. What a great treat to stop for a rest from our bike ride. This place is special. I can't believe that no has written a review so far. Let me have the honor of doing so.
They have the BEST homemade pie you will ever eat. I have eaten there many times when biking the Root River Trail and have never been disappointed. Not only is their pie wonderful but It is delightlful to sit in the screened-in porch attached to the quaint little pie shop while watching the bikers on the path, the hummingbirds which visit the hanging flower baskets or chat with fellow bikers. It is a must visit for all pie lovers. By Colleen on September 06, 2008 at 10:30 AM
