This little place keeps us active and out of the house in the winter when it gets cold and dark up this way. yes, it is an older establishment with a small screening room, but it shows first run movies in a fairly timely fashion.
This theater almost closed down in 2007. A dedicated group of locals (and summer residents) joined the 'Friends of the Harbor Theater' to keep the place open. As a result of this group, the sound system has been updated and the seats replaced. It's still can't compete with large city multiplexes, but perhaps this is the charm of the place. It IS a small town establishment with a dedication to film!
Festivals are held in the fall and spring which bring in lesser viewed features. Films like "Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter;" "The Cave of the Yellow Dog," "Ghengis Khan" and others have entertained audiences in the quiet months.
This one is worth the visit! Don't miss this small town experience! By Beth Conant on October 25, 2009 at 12:55 PM
The Harbor Theater is a sweet old establishment. They even let us rent out the theater for a family reunion we were having! They just show one movie at a time as they 'share' new releases with other small local theater in the midcoast area. Great for those foggy days we've been having this summer....
