Tobeys 19th Hole Cafe

I’ve been going to Tobey’s for almost 30 years now. When I came to San Diego and started golfing at Balboa, it was the natural place to tally our scores and get a snack. Then I got married and found out my mother-in-law, an avid golfer, had been enjoying post-round liver and onions there since the 50s. The food here is very good coffee shop style food, the breakfasts are especially excellent (try the corned beef hash…yum!), the prices are extremely reasonable, and it has one killer view of the city looking out over the first and last greens of the 18-hole course. There’s a nice patio, the décor is old San Diego club house, and the wait staff is top-notch. While it is not a table-cloth and wine-cellar kind of place, it’s still a neat little place for a quick romantic supper as well as a place for an after-round burger and beer. This is truly one of San Diego’s hidden gems.
