It depends on how long you owned the property before selling it. Also if you lived in the house for 3 of the last 5 years than you can exclude $250,000 of your capital gains. To figure your capital gains take the selling price minus the cost of the home plus any improvements you made. The Difference is your capital gains.

Yesterday, July 18th, 2011, I went to your website and selected an appointment time to come talk to someone. I received an e-mail that my request was accepted, but not confirmed. At the end of the day, I went back to the webssite and scheduled another appointment for today, July 19th. Again I received an e-mail saying that my request was accepted but not confirmed. Then I tried calling. I left a message. In the message I left my phone nmber and my e-mail address, but that too went unanswered. So, please let me know how I can schedule an appointment to talk to someone about my eligibility for benefits and options when I turn 65 later this year. please call or e-mail me.
