Enterprise is a city located in both Coffee and Dale Counties in Alabama. The city is best known for the Boll Weevil Monument located in the town square. The monument was erected because of the destruction of the towns agricultural diversity, starting with peanuts. Because of this, the city is the county's peanut producing leader. It was the only crop left alone by the Boll Weevil. It is said to be the worlds only monument of an insect pest.
Fort Rucker, and Army base and home of Army Aviation, is located just outside of Enterprise. Students here attend the Enterprise City Schools. The Enterprise State Community College, previously known as Enterprise-Ozark Community College is also located in the city. Famous people with ties to the city include former professional football player Cedric Smith, country music legend George Jones and screenwriter Michael McDowell.
There are many retirees from vast backgrounds who have contributed to the cultural diversity of the area. A popular people pleaser is an annual Piney Woods Arts Festival that draws talented artists and residents together during the Spring season. There are also great programs at The Enterprise Public Library, as well as individual artists who introduce creative projects throughout the year.
