As a muralist here in southern California, I do a lot of kid-friendly spaces and I know there are people across the country that even specialize in that genre. Since most of us advertise very little and gain the lions share of our jobs through work-of-mouth recommendations, I would suggest asking around to your friends and relatives for a referral. Those could be your best sources for finding a good artist. Also, just keep your eyes open. Much of my work comes through the referrals from the more public work I do (restaurants, stores and public spaces). That said, if you do not have any connection to artist through those channels, you may be able to find muralists in the yellow pages, on-line searches or through your local paint or home improvement stores. Many offer a spot for service providers to display their business cards. Through these channels you may find an artist, but in my experience these people are usually new to the business and looking to get started. They may be very good, but regardless of the source, I would just be sure to get at least 3-4 references and go look at the work that was done by the artist in-person if possible.

I agree with what you are saying, downtown and older homes are the history of Searcy. I agree that the citizens should receive , at the very least, a real estate tax credit! Great Idea!!!!
