Holbrook, the county seat of Navajo County, came to life as a railroad town. In fact, when it was founded around 1882 it was named for the first engineer of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. Holbrook was also the site of an unusual incident in 1912, when a meteorite fell toward the earth and exploded into thousands of pieces. Historic Route 66 ran through Holbrook, and the famous Petrified Forest National Park is just 28 miles away.
