About Avalon

The city of Avalon, named for an island in the legend of King Arthur, is a resort community located on Santa Catalina Island in Los Angeles County, California, in the Los Angeles-Long Beach metro area. It was once owned by chewing gum magnate, William Wrigley Jr. until it was turned over to the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy in 1975. Major attractions include the Catalina Island Museum and the Catalina Island Golf Course. One of the best places to visit when you are in Avalon is the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Gardens. Well-known residents of Avalon have included actress, Marilyn Monroe; writer, Zane Grey and actors Tom Mix and Gregory Harrison.
