Death Valley is located in southeastern California, Inyo County. It is considered part of the Mojave Desert and is near the California/Nevada border. It is best known for its extremely hot temperatures, the hottest being recorded as 134 degrees in July of 1913. It is also noted for its clear evening skies, which make it perfect for stargazing. A major attraction in the area is Death Valley National Park with attractions such as Artist’s Drive, Badwater, and Dante’s View. These attractions can be seen by automobile, 4-wheelers, bicycles, motorcycles, and hiking. Also nearby is the Amargosa Opera House.
Local businesses in the area include the Alpine Bone & Joint Clinic and the TIHP Family Services. The Alpine Bone & Joint Clinic specializes in general orthopedic surgery while the TIHP Family Services provides health and treatment programs to Indian families.
The school district is called Death Valley Unified School District and consists of six schools. Included are Death Valley Elementary School, Tecopa-Francis Elementary School, Shoshone Elementary School, Death Valley Academy, Shoshone Continuation School, and Inyo County Opportunity School.
One of the best places to visit when you are in Death Valley is Furnace Creek Golf Course. The Furnace Creek Resort offers two facilities for lodging, one at the Inn at Furnace Creek and the other at the family-oriented Ranch at Furnace Creek. The resort also offers outdoor swimming pools, tennis, stables with horseback riding, carriage and hay wagon rides, and Pilates and yoga classes.
