There are a few ways to preserve flowers, one is to strip off the foilage of the stems and or thorns tie the stems together with a rubber band hang as a bouquet or individually. Then find a dark, dry, and well ventilated room such as a closet to hang the flowers. This technique is best for richer color results, because sunlight fades colors. Another way to preserve is to use silica gel which results in more vibrant colors and better preservation of flower shape. The silica gel is a highly absorbent material that is used to remove moisture from the air in enclosed spaces. Also, using the Flower Drying Crystals also minimizes the possibility of mold growing on the flowers during the drying process, which sometimes can happen with air drying. Silica gel takes the water out of the stem and flower faster than air drying which helps preserve color and shape of the flower. Flower Pressing is another technique used to preserve flowers by laying flowers are wax paper and covering it with another layer of wax paper and either using a pressing machine or heavy books flattens the flowers and preserves them. So take a little time to educate yourself, how many colors will your particular art require? What can you do to make it easier for your printer? this will save you time and money. Does your printer do full-color i.e. photo quality printing or only basic color separation? The more you know the happier everyone will be.
