Copper does have a little 'give' to it to absorb fluctuations in pressure and temperature. It is not 'elastic' however and will eventually weaken over time. Also, if exposed to high pressure like a frozen pipe, it WILL rupture (it puckers out like a pair of lips) or push a fitting off. Try to keep repetitive stress/pressure at a minimum and avoid freezes at all costs!
