Located in the southwestern portion of Tehama County in the state of California, Paskenta is an unincorporated town whose name means “under the bank.” The town arose from the great source of lumber that lay around its outskirts and developed even more when a well functioning lumber mill was put in place. One of the favorite hangouts in town is the gas station that shares the same name as the town. There, people are able to grab their necessities and meet up with their neighbors in the small town sort of way. One of the best things to do in Paskenta is to take the short drive over to Black Butte Lake or over to the beautiful California Coast. It is also very close to Mendocino National Forest which offers an array of activities from hiking to fishing to camping. In order to go to school, the children of Paskenta go to the county schools as the population of Paskenta alone would not support a school system. This is because Paskenta is a large migrant town so half of its population leaves after the harvesting in and around the town is done.
