Starbucks started the Grounds for Gardens program back in the mid-1990s. They offer complimentary five-pound (2.27-kilogram) bags of used coffee grounds to enrich garden soil. Some stores even offer other ways to divert waste from landfills to be used as compost instead. From what we can tell, all of these locations offer the grounds for gardens in Santa Monica:

What is the best way to stop a toothache until a person can get to see a dentist?
Brush that area and floss real well to make sure you don't have any food r plaque stuck in there. Rinse with warm salt water to keep the gum from getting infection. Stay away from really cold water/food if that would hurt your tooth even more. And take Advil or Motrin over the counter. Then go see a dentist as soon as possible to avoid more complicated procedures. Hope you feel better soon.

We have a rental unit and the bathtub/shower and kitchen sink were destroyed by our tenants along with a lot of other things. The replacement quotes we got were ridiculous so we went with refinishing instead. Blackrock told us they would look brand new when they were done. I didn't believe when they told me but sure enough when they finished I had a brand new sink and shower. Great company to deal with, very reasonable prices.... more

Our daughter Chloe has been attending Sunshine Child Day Care for one year, and she loves it. Everyday, she repeats the names of all her friends at day care as soon as she gets in the car. The day care director, Angelov, works around the schedules of the parents. The flexible / extended hours, the spacious outdoors and the healthy, balanced meals that Angelov diligently prepares himself every morning are just some of the features that set this center apart from the others. Additionally, all members of the staff are warm and caring. As a parent, I feel so reassured to drop my daughter off at a place where she has a great time while growing and learning. Her vocabulary began to blossom ever since she began spending time at this center. I would recommend this day care center to parents who want to send their child to a safe, family-style environment that successfully balances play with developmental learning.... more

Behavior, play and learning skills rely on a strong language and sensory motor skill foundation. Screenings can help with early identification of a child who is struggling and may benefit from some additional support. Screenings are carried out at your child’s preschool or individually at the CSC.
Testing batteries provide information regarding your child’s overall academic achievement and identify any foundational learning struggles that may be creating challenges in overall academic success. We focus on the areas of reading, writing, math, attention, memory and overall learning and organizational skills.
From toddler through elementary school children rely on their fine & gross motor skills, play skills, visual skills, and handwriting skills to play and learn. If you feel your child is struggling in any of these areas or working harder than they need to, call a CSC Occupational Therapist for help. CSC Occupational Therapists are skilled in sensory processing challenges and more.
Our assessment process provides a standardized and functional historical measurement of your child’s strengths and weaknesses, related to development and learning. Observing your child to understand his or her motivation, cooperation, and behavior during the evaluation is very important. Classroom consultations are incorporated as needed. We couple this with the results of your child’s test scores in comparison to children of the same age. The CHILD SUCCESS CENTER® is able to assess all areas of development and learning to truly find out why your child is struggling.
Is your child equipped to enter Kindergarten? We can let you know. CSC supports parents and teachers in making the important decision, regarding the best time for your child to enter school. A CSC Kindergarten Readiness Screen documents your child’s achievement of skills and knowledge, providing unique insight into each child’s learning style, and making valuable recommendations to strengthen areas of challenge.
WHAT IS IT? The word “occupation” encompasses all functional activities that a child at any age needs to be successful in life. Occupational therapists carry the role of holistic child development specialists, helping children be successful in the many “jobs” of childhood. For information about the behaviors to look for, that may mean your child needs help from an Occupational Therapist, see SIGNS YOUR CHILD NEEDS HELP. All therapy is in the form of play. Children are challenged in a safe, controlled, and sensory rich environment to promote growth and meet their individual functional goals. Occupational therapists draw from extensive knowledge, training, and experience in child development, using activities to challenge and teach, while safeguarding and building a child’s self confidence and esteem.
WHAT IS IT? Speech-language pathologists look at a child's speech and language skills within the context of total development. The Speech Language Pathologist uses pictures, books, puzzles, games, toys and objects to stimulate speech and language in a natural play environment. Besides observing your child, the speech-language pathologist conducts standardized tests and scales, and looks for milestones in speech and language development. The speech-language pathologist also assesses: What your child understands (called receptive language) What your child can say (called expressive language) If your child is attempting to communicate in other ways, such as pointing, head shaking, gesturing, etc. Your child's oral-motor status (how a child's mouth, tongue, palate, etc., work together for speech) Not sure if your child needs speech and language therapy? Is your child just a late talker or could he or she have a communication delay? See the SIGNS YOUR CHILD NEEDS HELP.
WHAT IS IT? Educational therapists have a knowledge of how brain processes work. Educational therapy: Addresses underlying processing issues/skills Focuses on learning styles Focuses on executive functioning, organizational skills, study skills, attention Communication, language skills, and/or comprehension For information about the behaviors to look for, that may mean a child needs help through Educational Therapy, see SIGNS YOUR CHILD NEEDS HELP. In order to commence services a child must have a CHILD SUCCESS CENTER® assessment or a current evaluation from an outside party. The evaluation process supports a successful outcome. See ASSESSMENTS for more information regarding CSC Assessments. SIGNS YOUR CHILD NEEDS HELP. Your bright child may need our help if you recognize some of the following behaviors: Avoids or struggles to read Gets into trouble & dislikes school Avoids, cries and/or battles over homework Is easily frustrated & emotionally fragile
WHAT IS IT? Sound has a profound effect on living systems. Unlike light, which bounces off the body, sound goes directly in. The vagus nerve, which connects the ear to the brain, also connects the ear to nearly every organ in the body. Have you ever gone into a teenager's room, and felt like the music rattled you from head to toe? It did! Literally, inside and out. Many studies have been done to understand the effect of noise on people and nature. In 1975, a study done by researcher Arline Bronzaft found that children on the train track side of a New York public school lagged a year behind in learning to read when compared to their classmates on the other side of the building. Other studies have found the same learning difficulties for children living near airports.
Provides preschools and parents a tool to screen at risk children in the 1st year of preschool. The CSC team is able to identify a child who may benefit from early education intervention.
