Earthquakes in Selma

Are there as many earthquakes in Selma as other California cities? What are the building regulations? Is earthquake damage covered by insurance companies?

danishwop image Answered by danishwop

Dear Kodabear- earthquakes are a fairly common occurence here in California, but that is from a 'technical/literal' perspective. we do not 'feel' 90% of them, and even when there 'is one' that measures a magnitude of any significance, unless you are 'stationary', you don't even feel it.
If you are driving or moving, there is no 'effect' that is tangible. we are forunate here in Central California (i.e. Selma, Fresno) to not have felt any major quakes for years. The last real 'shaker' I can remember was in 1989 when the World Series game was cancelled because of the SF quake. It pretty darn 'safe' here and as such, there is no 'specific' eartquake coverage for insurance, but you CAN build your structure to be 'earthquake proof', although if the tremor is 'strong enough', there really is 'no such thing' as 'earthquake proof'- hope this helps....
