Camarillo Feed Store
Animals are treated poorly here
This feed store is run by father/son team, and animals are not treated well here. Alfred the turkey died under mysterious circumstances, and I found the baby chicks once without food or water while under a heat lamp. I found a dead mouse once in the water outside for the rooster, duck, and turkey. Yesterday, my husband came home and said that the son said that his father had said that the rooster and duck were too old, and so the son said that he wrang their necks and threw them in the trash. When I heard this, I called the store, and the son denied this; so he either lied to my husband or to me. Either way, they are no longer in the parking lot where they used to live. The son was always unkind to Alfred and the rooster, and he clearly does not like working there and seems angry most of the time. The other turkeys and chickens are kept in very small cages. I think it is a shame that a feed store could care so little about animals and their welfare.... more

Balcom Canyon Pet Lodge
Four plus stars
I've been taking my dogs to Balcom Canyon for many years and they've always been returned to me in good health and seemingly happy. My only complaint is they're not open and available for pickup and dropoff on Saturdays. I think this is a mistake on their part.... more

Max's story
I was a big beautiful 6 year old Doberman Pincer, I was gentle as a lamb and never got upset with anything or anyone. Everybody loved me and I loved them back. On 04/07/10 Wednesday night I started coughing, the next day my owner took me to the Somis veterinary hospital. It was dirty and there was animal hair on the floor, the vet put a stethescope on my chest and said I did not have a heart murmer, diagnosed me with bronchitis, gave me a antibiotic shot and gave my owner antibiotic pills for me. On Saturday morning my cough was worse and I couldnt get my breath, I was gasping for air, I had to stand up to breathe. My owners took me back to the Somis veterinary hospital, the vet checked me again and gave me another antibiotic shot, more pills, and told my owner I was congested, at this time my owner did not know, but my lungs were filling with my own blood, I was starting to go into cardiac arrest. By Saturday evening I was in very bad shape, I died that night. Go elsewhere.... more
